Kathleen - good to hear from you, and thanks for reaching out! I hope you all had a nice holiday! I am pleased to hear that Maisy is turning toward lacrosse. She is so athletic and I have no doubt she will develop into a very strong player. My team held tryouts last fall, is currently playing indoor lacrosse at Greenbelt and will play a spring season together followed by at least one tournament. After that, the club lacrosse commitment takes over and the girls will play there and high school lacrosse. However, I spoke to Nick, and we decided that we would love to have Maisy attend one or two of our first spring practices as a "tryout". And if she can add value to our team, we can make room for her. Our team is comprised entirely of girls who have been playing club lacrosse for several years (except for one). And so their lax IQ and stick skills are very strong. I am assuming she will fit in well after playing with Sidwell and hearing she has attended some camps. But to be fair, we will need to have her tryout, and cannot guaranty a spot. My only suggestion would be to make sure her stick skills are strong when she comes to practice (left and right hands). I have some wall ball / rebounder drills if she is interested. As far as other options, she could join a rec program this spring. I know Bethesda registration is open, and I assume Potomac Power (formerly Rockville Lax) and MC Lacrosse are also open to fill teams. She will be more advanced that these programs and deserves strong coaching. But these programs form new teams each season. I believe all of the club programs held their calendar year tryouts last fall. And so it may not be possible to find a club team that can take her. But I can ask around and if I do find any alternatives I will let you know. Please confirm your receipt of this email and let me know what you think. Thanks! Our 8th grader, Maisy, is interested in playing lacrosse outside of school. Do you have any suggestions? She played with Sidwell last year, really enjoyed it, and did Stanford and another lacrosse camp over the summer with Finnegan. We'd love your advice! Hope you all are doing well!
