Next week’s primary election in Vermont will bring to a close one of the tightest primary races this year. Incumbent Attorney General Bill Sorrell is seeking reelection for an eighth term is facing Chittenden County Attorney TJ Donovan in a Democratic primary which will likely decide the general election winner. Both candidates have been working hard to define their views to the voters and have hosted several debates around Vermont in the past week to discuss their responses to issues of substance abuse and genetically modified foods. Post debates, new polling by Castleton Polling Institute has come out that puts General Sorrell in the lead over Donovan by twenty points, 44-24 statewide. Though determining who will vote in the primary is difficult, Sorrell’s lead is still far over the 7% margin of error. With less than one week left to go both campaigns will be emphasizing their candidates experience as prosecutors and working to get out the vote in the all-important Democratic primary. Instead of supporting those programs, the Help Hospitalized Veterans has used donations for lavish salaries and pensions, self-dealing business relationships and loans, and perks such as $80,000 in golf memberships and use of a condominium, Atty. Gen. Kamala D. Harris said in a lawsuit filed in Riverside County Superior Court.
