Lyle'sSecond Chance

After Lyle served his time in prison, he was determined to be a productive member of society. In his own words, his life had been "destructive" and he wanted to leave that lifestyle behind to accomplish his goals. He sought out the help of our Welcome Home Reentry program who matched him with a mentor and resources to start re-building his life. We caught up with Lyle at his new job at fellow local non-profit Bread for the City and he shared his advice for others facing similar challenges. Student athletes at Georgetown University took a break from their athletic endeavors to givebackto the community. Over the weekend, they packed hundreds of lunches for the men staying at two of our low-barrier shelters and delivered them just in time for lunch.

When a 24 year-old new father came to our McCarrick Family Center he was struggling to apply for a place to live with his young family. Thanks to our range of services at the center, the family walked away that day with diapers and formula for their baby, food from the food pantry, financial management advice and help with securing a new home!
Ward 8 faith leaders gathered at our 801 East Men's Shelter in the early hours of a Saturday morning to provide breakfast for the men staying in the shelter.
