Aug 31, 3:31 PM TEAM HUNTER PLAYER NEWS SINCE SAT, SEP 1 Trent Richardson - (Tue, Sep 4, 2012) Mint Condition: NFL Breakout Stars Michele Steele is joined by Beckett Football editor Susan Lulgjuraj to discuss the NFL trading card market for players such as Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck. /media/motion/2012/0904/dm_120904_mint_condition_football_preview/dm_120904_mint_condition_football_preview.jpg Trent Richardson - (Tue, Sep 4, 2012) When asked about Richardson's outlook for Week 1, team president Mike Holmgren said, if he plays, there is a certain amount of care the situation requires. "The worst thing we could do is rush him before he's ready," according to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal. On the same day coach Pat Shurmur said Richardson would be the starter as soon as he's able to play, the president is preaching caution. The two statements don't seem to jive. It's a tough decision for fantasy owners this week, as Philadelphia was middle-of-the-road (16th) against the run last year, and it's a home game for the Browns. Almost certainly, Brandon Jackson and/or Montario Hardesty will also get work in the event Richardson gets the start, but it's tough to leave a player of his potential on the bench. Unless the decision is between he and a solid veteran back, insert T-Rich as of this moment and express your own cautious optimism. Trent Richardson - (Mon, Sep 3, 2012) Richardson (left knee) got some work in with the Browns' first-team offense in his return to practice Monday, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Coach Pat Shurmur has said that he's "very optimistic" that Richardson, who reportedly looked good/healthy Monday, will play against the Eagles in Sunday's season opener, but that figures to hinge on how well the rookie back's knee responds to the work he got in Monday and then will get as the week progresses. Once Richardson gets the green light to play, the team doesn't plan to ease him back in. "If he's ready to go, he will be our starter," said Shurmur. Trent Richardson - (Mon, Sep 3, 2012) Richardson (knee) returned to practice Monday, Cleveland Plain Dealer writer Mary Kay Cabot reports. Richardson's presence on the field Monday is a great sign, though it remains to be seen how fully he'll work in his return to practice. Initially, he was spotted working in individual drills, while sporting a sleeve on his scoped knee. Assuming no setbacks with his knee, optimism remains with regards to Richardson's status for Sunday's regular season opener against the Eagles. Trent Richardson - (Sun, Sep 2, 2012) Richardson (knee) appears to be on track to play in the Browns' season opener against the Eagles, the Canton Repository reports. "He's very close," coach Pat Shurmur said of Richardson, who is recovering from an Aug. 12 knee scope. "He's done a lot behind the scenes of course that I haven't talked about." We should get a better read of how realistic Richardson's chances of playing in Week 1 are once practice heats up in the coming days. Shurmur has noted that if Richardson plays, he'll be turned loose fully. "If he plays," Shurmur said, "he will be ready to go, and he will play the whole game." If the Browns end up deciding to play it safe with Richardson in Week 1, which can't be ruled out as a possibility, Montario Hardesty is still viewed as the team's No. 2 back, though Brandon Jackson would be in the mix for touches as well. Trent Richardson - (Sat, Sep 1, 2012) Richardson (knee) is expected to play the whole game if he's cleared for Week 1, ESPN Cleveland reports. The news seems to indicate that the Browns don't want to insert Richardson back into action in Week 1 unless he's at or close to 100 percent. Coach Pat Shurmur and GM Tom Heckert said they were "very optimistic" about a Richardson return, but it could just be posturing. We'll know more about Richardson's recovery in the days leading up to the game, but on a positive note, it appears owners won't have to worry about Richardson sharing carries with Montario Hardesty, unlike Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart. Trent Richardson - (Sat, Sep 1, 2012) Richardson (knee) is "very close" to practicing, Cleveland Plain Dealer writer Mary Kay Cabot reports. Richardson is the sort of player who probably only needs a few limited practices to be ready for game day, so we're not worried at this point at this absence from practice. The midpoint of the upcoming week is the significant point in the Richardson timeline. He does, in any case, remain questionable on a technical basis. Tony Romo - (Tue, Sep 4, 2012) W2W4: Cowboys-Giants Colleen Dominguez discusses the anticipation the Cowboys are feeling to start their season in the same building their last one ended. /media/motion/2012/0904/dal_120904_w2w4_cowboys_nod_colleen/dal_120904_w2w4_cowboys_nod_colleen.jpg Jabar Gaffney - (Mon, Sep 3, 2012) Gaffney (quad) has worked out for the Dolphins, NESN.com reports. Gaffney is reportedly open to a return to New England, but with the Patriots having traded for Greg Salas, an opportunity with the wideout-hungry Dolphins could be a good fit for either Gaffney or Donte Stallworth, who also worked out with Miami.
