Dear Hunter: Two reasons for this note. First, I thought this article titled *"The Biden Doctrine <http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2016/08/biden-doctrine/496841/>"* might be of interest to you. This is based on an interview I recently did with *Vice President Biden* in the White House, inspired in part by Jeffrey Goldberg's important and fascinating set of interviews with President Obama. I think Biden brings a distinctive frame to foreign policy -- one that takes the psychological dimension of dealing with leaders to a new level. I look forward to any thoughts or reactions. Secondly, if you are able to be in Washington on *September 28 and 29*, I'd like to invite you to the *Washington Ideas Forum <http://www.cvent.com/events/washington-ideas-forum-2016/event-summary-439f62398b1e498e91105c93f927a98c.aspx> -- **The Atlantic'*s premier politics and policy event in Washington, DC. There will be a week long set of activities all described here <http://www.theatlantic.com/live/events/washington-ideas-week-2016/2016/> -- but the 'complimentary' invitation from me is for the *Washington Ideas Forum* <http://www.cvent.com/events/washington-ideas-forum-2016/event-summary-439f62398b1e498e91105c93f927a98c.aspx> (Sept 28-29) at the Harman Center for the Arts. You will receive more information from my team if you let me know you would like to come. *DO NOT REGISTER ONLINE. * Just let me know if you would like to join us by RSVPing to this note, and I'll pass you on to our team -- as one of my guests. All best, Steve *Steve Clemons* *Washington Editor at Large, The Atlantic* *202-276-1176 <202-276-1176> cell @SCClemons on Twitter* http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2016/08/bid en-doctrine/496841/ The Biden Doctrine Has the vice president made a lasting contribution in foreign policy? - STEVE CLEMONS <http://www.theatlantic.com/author/steve-clemons/> Joe Biden is now the vice president who will not be president. He’s been VP for seven and a half years, preceded by decades of work on U.S. foreign policy in the Senate, but the question remains whether he is distinctive in any memorable way for his work in international affairs. Was he simply a glad-handing flack pushing the Obama agenda, a manic schmoozer of foreign leaders? A gaffe-prone foreign-policy dilettante who, in the long run, won’t matter?
