</style></head><body><p>Dear Parents and Members of the Class of 2017,</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Plans are well under way for the Class of 2017’s Commencement on June 9. This letter contains information to help you prepare for this joyous occasion. On Monday afternoon during their last formal advisory period, seniors received their graduation stationery. Each graduate received 27 name cards, 20 announcements, seven invitations, and six tickets:</p>
<ul style="list-style-type: disc;">
<li><strong>Announcements</strong> should be sent to those with whom you want to share this wonderful news but whom you do not expect to attend.</li>
<li><strong>Invitations</strong> should be sent to friends and family members who will actually be attending the ceremony. Please <a href="https://webapps.pcrsoft.com/Campus/Common/Service.aspx?notId=484181&scn=Sidwell&linkId=2166">register your family and guests</a> so that we have an accurate count of expected attendees; you may use this same link to advise us of any special seating, parking, or other accommodations you or your guests may need. Because seating in the Class of 1960 Garden behind Zartman House is limited, groups of more than six guests may be asked to have some members of their party sit or stand outside the main seating area. </li>
<li><strong>Tickets</strong> will be needed for entrance to the Athletic Center in the event of inclement weather. Additional tickets can be requested from the Dean of Students’ office as needed.</li>
</ul>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In the next week, we will ask the young women in the class to select the color of their graduation flowers. Please note that we will order white bouquets for anyone who does not submit their preference to Mr. Zimmerman or Ms. Thigpen by mid-May.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">On the morning of graduation, seniors must be in the dining room by 8:00 a.m. to receive their flowers and have their official graduation photographs taken. Four pictures will be taken at this time: a photo of the entire graduating class; a photo of our “lifers” (students who began their Sidwell Friends career in PK or K); a photo of seniors who are Quakers; and a photo of students who are children of alumni, taken with their alumni parents. If you are an alum, please be sure to arrive with your graduating student at 8:00 a.m., as there will be no other opportunity to participate in this photo.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Group photos (including the processional down the Zartman stairs), individual photos taken during the ceremony, and candid photos will be available for downloading at no charge from the School website. A video of the ceremony will be mailed to graduates after the ceremony. I will email you when the photos are posted on the website.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">A reminder about the Upper School’s community service requirement: The deadline for seniors to turn in their community service forms was September 6, the first day of school. Unfortunately, we still have not received all these forms. Please be aware that students will not receive their graduation stationery until all forms have been turned in to the Community Service Office. Thank you for your efforts to complete this requirement as soon as possible!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Finally, I want to remind you that seniors are required to attend both graduation rehearsals. These rehearsals will be held on Monday, June 5, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. and Wednesday, June 7, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.<span style="color: red;"> </span>Please do not schedule any other activities for your student during those times.</p>
