Friends, One thing struck me when Todd and I checked in last December: He told me why he needed to run for governor -- not how he thought he could win. And it sounded familiar. When I ran for Iowa secretary of state three years ago, Todd worked hard to build support for me in the Charles City area, like many of you did in your own communities. He told his neighbors protecting Iowans’ right to vote mattered, and he wanted to make sure their voice would be heard at the ballot box. When we first sat down to talk about whether he should run for governor, Todd talked about folks in Charles City who were being left behind. He explained how Governor Branstad and Lieutenant Governor Reynolds weren't fighting for them -- and told me that needed to change. Todd's the rare kind of leader who talks about people -- not a bunch of talking points. He kind of reminds me of my mentor Tom Harkin in a lot of ways. And he makes it clear that running isn't about winning the title of governor -- it's about making the governor's office a place that actually helps people and solves problems. Every time I talk to Todd, I'm certain he's the right candidate at the right time, and I'm proud to do my part. If you're ready for a governor who will put people first, join me in chipping in $5 or more to help Todd take back Iowa: https://secure.actblue.com/contribute/page/170517-prichard-hitthegroundrunning If this election is anything like the last, it will be a tough one. We need to nominate a Democrat who understands challenges facing Iowa’s cities and towns, big and small -- one who is progressive, and not afraid to be bold. Recently Todd proposed free community college for all Iowans to address workforce challenges and boost wages -- that is exactly the type of big thinking we need in the governor’s office. And Todd and his wife Ann are just nice people who you can’t help but like, no matter what political party you identify with. If you get a chance to meet them, be sure to do so. Join me and Todd in fighting for a fresh start for Iowans.
