We wanted to take a moment to share with you the extraordinary experience
our children have had through the China Field Study program currently
offered at Sidwell Friends School.

We have learned that quite a few students and parents are unaware of this
program.

There are a few slots currently available for students interested for the
2018 program.

If you are interested, we would encourage you to immediately contact John
Flower or Min Kim to assist in making the appropriate arrangements.

The program goes from January after exams to Early May.


All of us sending this email visited our children at the school’s main
campus in Xizhou which is near Dali City and within the Yunnan province.

We were able to experience first hand the remarkable opportunity this
program offers to our children.

The program is extraordinarily unique as the students all live within one
compound where they sleep, eat and study.

They spend one evening a weekend with a host family.


The students not only immerse themselves in the culture of the Chinese
people, in particular in this remote, historic town, but develop their true
independent selves through the structure of the program.

While they continue to have a structured class program, the students have
the opportunity to discover learning in completely new and innovative
ways.

They also work directly with a "master" who teaches them a skill.

The work is rigorous, but they develop different skill sets through this
alternative way of learning.


Further, the students are completely immersed in the beautiful culture of
Xizhou.

The town and the local people have embraced the students in a really
special way.

The program provides many opportunities to see other nearby cities, towns
and villages.


We feel this program is having a profound, positive impact on our children.

We hear that graduates from this program who have gone on to college found
that it better prepared them for their college experience.

Further, they found that many universities where they applied were
particularly interested in them because of this experience.

We are deeply grateful to those who have created and maintained it for the
past few years.

We wanted to make sure that other families are aware of the program and
consider it with their children before it closes for the next year (May 12th),
the enrollment deadline for next year.

The program is currently featured under Global Programs on our school's new
website. We hope you will take a look.

This program is one of the greatest gifts Sidwell Friends has to offer its
students and we are eager to spread the word so others in our community can
also be a part of it.
