This past week I sold my home and moved from Tempe to Phoenix.

So what?

Well, in accordance with state law, I have to vacate my role as a precinct committee member and member of the state committee of the Arizona Democratic Party. And, as a result, that means I'm no longer eligible to remain as State Chair of the Arizona Democratic Party. #bureaucracy

So, effective today, our First Vice Chair Bill Roe will be taking over as active chair of the Arizona Democratic Party and there will be an election to select a new chair at the next state committee meeting.

Now that I've relayed that news, I have a few things I want to say.

First, thank you for your support of our party. We have one of the best organized and most effective state Democratic parties in the entire country and that's because of your commitment and dedication to electing Democrats all across in Arizona.

Two and a half years ago, I was elected to become both the first woman and​ first Latino chair in our state's history (shocking, I know...it was 2015 for crying out loud).

I promised to build a leaner, meaner Democratic party focused on building our infrastructure, expanding our field and GOTV programs and making our party less dependent on big money by dramatically growing our small-dollar, grassroots fundraising program.

We've done all of that -- while also streamlining our party's expenses. And, due largely to those efforts, we've been able to recently invest $50,000 in our county parties around the state to give them the resources they need to better organize and mobilize in every corner of the state.

I'll never get over what happened on the presidential level in 2016 -- and I'm deeply worried about what is happening to our country as a result. But I am damn proud of what we accomplished in Arizona in 2016.

Collectively, we not only helped raise the minimum wage, but we also sent Joe Arpaio packing. On top of that, Arizona was one of the few states that performed better for Hillary Clinton than it did for Barack Obama. The work of our record-setting field and Get-Out-The-Vote efforts was a major reason why.

But just as I want to credit the work of our party and candidates for moving Arizona in the right direction, a big share of that credit goes to progressive organizations throughout the state who have been working to register and mobilize voters for years, while advocating for our shared values.

Much of what we're doing right here in Arizona is happening because no one person or one organization is doing it. Tons of people are rising up. We’ll continue to succeed and move Arizona forward because so many of you are holding yourselves accountable for changing our state and fighting for our democracy.

These are trying times, both for our party and for our country. But this job has only made me more optimistic about our future.

Thank you for all you do, and you'll be seeing me around – just not as “chair.” I don’t need the title to keep going… and we’re just getting started!
