In this space, I love to discuss rock and roll culture. I’m convinced that rock is essential to America’s popular culture and always will be. Sure, rap, pop and all sorts of music that is au currant may rule the airwaves these days. And yes, there hasn’t been a sustained decade of rock and roll innovation since the 90s. But the trend in which many American critics are quick to declare rock’s demise is overblown.

Watch just about any hit premium television show—they are chock full of rock and roll, and not just of the classic variety. Take Showtime’s “Ray Donovan,” a contemporary gangster genre masterpiece—especially this season (Season 5). A couple of weeks ago episode 10 of season 5 closed with a tune by a Denver band, the Yawpers, called “Doing it Right (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-OEC9CgAJs&utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=e509ac03ec-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_10_30&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-e509ac03ec-145367789) .” Now this tune by the Yawpers is rockin’.
