It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and a time that brings so much attention to a health issue that affects so many women and their families.

As someone who has long fought to ensure that Iowa women always receive the care they need for vital health services, I’m always happy to see people going pink to show their support for this devastating disease. But I also want people to remember that there are so many health needs that women need access to -- needs that are often the targets of attacks which have absolutely nothing to do with women’s health.

Groups like Planned Parenthood who provide free or low-cost health services that many women wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford have been under attack by extremists and their radical agendas for years.

Opponents ignore the fact that without these groups, many women would never receive cancer screenings, referrals, or so many basic health services that are needed.
