But, for the first time in a generation, the new Standing Committee did not include a younger leader who would be groomed as heir apparent, as the New York Times Chris Buckley reports (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/24/world/asia/xi-jinping-china.html?_r=0&utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=a7b70c51c0-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_10_25&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-a7b70c51c0-145367789) . Dive Deeper: President Trump is soon to embark on a 12-day trip to Asia. CSIS's Matt Goodman previews the trip in his new commentary, “Getting to Asia (https://www.csis.org/analysis/getting-asia?utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=a7b70c51c0-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_10_25&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-a7b70c51c0-145367789) .” ** North Korea’s Stern Warning ------------------------------------------------------------ A senior North Korean official has issued a stern warning to the world that it should take "literally" his country's threat to test a nuclear weapon above ground, as CNN’s Will Ripley reports (http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/25/politics/north-korea-us-hydrogen-bomb-threat/index.html?utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=a7b70c51c0-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_10_25&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-a7b70c51c0-145367789) . Dive Deeper: CFR’s Scott Snyder authored a commentary, “After the Party Congress, Will Xi Jinping Finally Get Tough on North Korea? Antoine “Fats” Domino was a true pioneer of rock and roll and a global legend. Everyone knows his hits, they are part of the American lexicon. “Blueberry Hill” and “Ain’t That A Shame” are two of the most well-known songs ever recorded. And Fats sold more than 65 million records, outselling every 1950s act except Elvis. He had 37 Top 40 singles in his career. In fact, you could make the case that Fats’ music helped break down racial barriers because his concerts in the waning days of Jim Crow were some of the first integrated shows. Fats was one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s first 10 inductees. In New Orleans, Fats’ hometown, he was a beloved son of the Crescent City. He lived quietly in his landmark Lower 9th Ward home. And he enjoyed tooling around his neighborhood in his pink Cadillac convertible. When the levees broke during Hurricane Katrina, Fats’ neighborhood was under water, and he and his wife Rosemary had to be rescued by boat. This is a performance you are unlikely to see anywhere surrounding Fats’ obituary. Most will talk about his big hits and show him playing on big stages. I was fortunate to see Fats play in big venues and in tiny clubs decades ago. He was always magical, like royalty, really. This song, “I Hear You Knockin (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iU9f_MUBCSs&utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=a7b70c51c0-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_10_25&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-a7b70c51c0-145367789) ’” is a Big Easy standard written by New Orleans musician Dave Bartholomew. Fats played it so well.
