Solidarity on Tap Fall Series Theme: Walking together toward a just, hospitable world JVC Northwest, JVC (based in Baltimore, MD), and Ignatian Solidarity Network welcome those connected to the Jesuits and the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola (FJVs, Jesuit school alumni, Jesuit parish members, etc.) to join us for socializing and social justice. Solidarity on Tap events are hosted throughout the country and gather folks for a short reflection from a speaker and connection with other members of the Ignatian family. AmeriCorps Stories of Service JV AmeriCorps member Hannah Eby (Aloha, OR '16-17) “This AmeriCorps role is absolutely vital for children and teens processing various traumatic experiences associated with homelessness.” In the latest AmeriCorps blog, JV Hannah Eby (Aloha, OR ’16-17) reflects on two service related experiences that demonstrate the importance of the Children's Specialist role at the Hillsboro Family Shelter. Events, Resources, & Reflections Centennial Retreat Thursday evenings from October 12 to November 16 or Friday mornings from October 13 to November 17, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, San Diego, Cali. This retreat hosted by the Center for Ignatian Spirituality will involve a presentation based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius and time for people to reflect together. Jesuit Friends and Alumni Sunday 2017 October 21-22, various locations throughout the East Coast Join fellow Jesuit-educated grads for Jesuit Friends and Alumni Sunday 2017. This annual event has expanded the program to two dozen locations throughout the East Coast, and one international gathering. Join for a gathering of Jesuit graduates of all ages for fellowship, community building, and more. The Masses will also feature a reception afterward, where attendees can learn about volunteer programs, spiritual development opportunities, and other ways to take part in the many offerings of Jesuit ministries. The Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice (IFTJ) is an annual gathering for members of the Ignatian family (Jesuit institutions and larger church) to gather in the context of social justice and solidarity to learn, reflect, pray, network, and advocate together. Now in its 20th year, the IFTJ has a rich history rooted in honoring the Jesuits and their companions who were martyred in El Salvador in 1989. "Barking to the Choir" Book Launch Nov 8, 6-9 pm, Homeboy Industries, Los Angeles, Cali. Join Fr. Greg Boyle and Homeboy Industries for an autumn outdoor block party to celebrate the launch of Fr. Greg's new book "Barking to the Choir" focused on heartfelt stories of kinship, hope, love, and compassion. Jesuit Parish Justice Summit June 17-18, 2018, Denver, CO Join Jesuit parish staff and clergy from around the U.S. to share best practices and promote collaboration. Jesuits West Celebrations The Oregon and California Provinces have been in a multi-year process to merge into a new, larger Province called "Jesuits West." This new Province stretches from the Arctic Circle to the US/Mexico Border. In celebration, many local communities and parishes are hosting events to honor Jesuits West in the coming year. Catholic Volunteer Network Discernment Retreats Catholic Volunteer Network now hosts discernment retreats for current volunteers and alumni who are contemplating their next steps. Join CVN for a weekend retreat and enjoy the opportunity to get away from the busyness of life and join with others in the spirit of discernment. These retreats are made available free of charge thanks to the support of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation. Travel stipends are also available.
