The Boston Globe Commentary October 5, 2017 Fariborz S.Fatemi Therehe goes again, Trump, Putin’s “useful idiot.” Every day our national securityis in a clear and present danger, as our most closely guarded secrets comepouring out from every corner of this incompetent administration. With Trump, everything he says, youhave to ask, “Whom do you believe?” Trump, or “your lying eyes”? Best example: storm-ravaged Puerto Rico. An island territory of the United Statestotally destroyed by two storms. With recovery at a snail’s pace,after over two weeks, 90 per cent of Puerto Rico is without power, most areashave little access to food, water, or medicine. There are areas that have beencut off and have gone without help, with residents drinking river water out ofdesperation. Trump, showing a total lack of empathy,not hearing the desperate cries for help, congratulates himself for anexcellent response and criticizes the American citizens of Puerto Rico forasking for needed assistance. Trump, the usualcarnival-barker-in-chief, goes to Puerto Rico and throws them paper towels.Yes, paper towels. What an embarrassment. It also took him eight days todispatch a hospital ship that took five more days to get to Puerto Rico. Why the delay? Trump tells you, becausePuerto Rico is between “two wide oceans.” Trump, who knows nothing and does not know he knows nothing, and doesnot care, continues to bumble on. Incompetence and lavish use oftaxpayers’ money for self comfort of him and his administration have become therule rather than the exception. Perhaps he should be asking his friend Putin tohelp him with the recovery effort, since he told the American citizens ofPuerto Rico that they are “wrecking his budget.” Not the American citizens ofTexas or Florida, but the American citizens of Puerto Rico. Again what anembarrassment. Then there is Las Vegas and anothermass shooting. Should we all not be asking again and again, how many morepeople have to die before our elected representatives wake up and pass commonsense gun safety laws? After every shooting, the silence is always deafening.Nothing is ever done and the same scenario is repeated the next time, andpeople continue to die. Remember Trump, the Republican Partyhe heads that controls the Congress, is bought and paid for by the NRA. Changecan only happen by voting them out. Having been swallowed by the swamp,(McConnell, Ryan and the Republicans they lead) Trump is now its “usefulidiot.” How very sad.
