South to South (Zambia-DRC) chemotherapy training programme launched at Cancer Diseases Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia, May 1, 2018.
The trainees from the Biamba Marie Mutombo hospital in the Congo will spend six - eight weeks in Zambia for training.

Hi Dan,

This is fantastic. I spoke to Dikembe only briefly between his other meetings this morning.

We are excited about the oncology initiative at the hospital and I know that it will be a tremendous success. Our program will ultimately serve as a model for other African countries due to the generosity of Goldman Sachs. There is already interest from the American Cancer Society in helping us with our chemotherapy management program. We plan to discuss it with Dikembe when he returns to Atlanta.

We had a great day yesterday with dikembe.

The team loved it.

We are going to try to put out a "stretch goal" of reaching $120,000 to fund the oncology program entirely ourselves.

I will let you know where i end up by end of next week.

We are excited to be doing this.

If we get there......susan, i will ask you to help arrange to send an email from dikembe to me that i can forward to my group so they know that he saw it and appreciates it, etc etc.

Its the start of a beautiful relationship between my group and dikembe!! :)

Thank you to everyone who attended the session with Dikembe Mutombo yesterday. What an amazing story and inspiring mission! And so great to hear him talk about his experience with Goldman Sachs around the world.

As you heard, he is currently focused on raising $120k to fund an oncology program at the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital. We are putting together a grass-roots effort within our SF office to help him reach that goal with support from our team. It's a stretch - but we thought we would give it a shot!

Over ten years ago, Dikembe Mutombo donated $23 million of his own personal money to the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation to build the Biamba Marie Mutombo hospital and he contributes a considerable amount of his time raising money for the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation and the hospital. Since leaving the NBA, Dikembe has become a full time advocate and ambassador for making sure that everyone and especially those most in need have access to the health services and educational and economic opportunities needed to live a better live and see their children grow to be strong healthy productive members of their communities.
The realization of his dream, the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital, named in memory of his beloved mother provides the DR Congo, Africa and the world with a model of how his dedication, his own financial resources, his ability to involve and coordinate the efforts of others can create a platform for good and improving the lives of the population of the Masina area of Kinshasa in the DR Congo. To date the hospital has treated over 300,000 men, women and children.
