Tuesday - March 15, 2011 From the School This Week's Query There is no student query this week. Instead, I send along this query for parents, which is one of the student queries for the new trimester: How can we listen to others and respect their ideas, even if we do not agree?Notes from Sally This week is Minimester, and kids are off on great adventures, in the school building, in the local area, and all over the world. Evaluation surveys about the program will be available after our return from spring break. Look for the link in the Tuesday Letter for March 29th. Please feel free to contact us during the week if there are concerns. Our MathCounts team will be competing in the state round on Saturday. Good luck – we’ll be eager to hear the results! Thanks so much to everyone for the support of our winter food drive. In conjunction with our friends at Hearst, we collected more than 4000 items! Our Food Frenzy Minimester students will be delivering the donations this week to the Capital Area Food Bank and DC Central Kitchen, and a final batch will go to the Mid County United Ministries in Wheaton at the end of the week. Thank you for your generosity! Team Sky Social Studies teacher Leslie Segal has now begun her maternity leave at the advice of her doctor. Team Sky families – we’ll let you know when the baby arrives! Kim Yates will start as her substitute as soon as we are back from break. Fifth graders Anders Brodnax and Anya Vinogradsky competed for Sidwell Friends in the St. Albans Jr. Open Invitational Swim Meet recently. Anya broke a meet record with her outstanding win in the 100 breast , and also won the 50 breast, 3rd in 100 IM and earned a 9th place finish for Sidwell Friends in the women's events. Anders earned 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishes in his 3 events (50 breast, 100 breast, 50 back), garnering a 13th place win for Sidwell Friends in the male events. Congratulations! Have a wonderful and restful break! PA Announcements Wine and Cheese Reception for 7th Grade Parents This is a reminder that there is a 7th Grade Parents Wine and Cheese Reception on Friday, April 1st, from 6-8pm in Zartman House.
