Barack Obama, the US president, will meet Enda Kenny, the new Ireland prime minister, for traditional “shamrock ceremony” talks at the White House. MPs debate the NHS MPs will hold a committee-stage debate on the health and social care bill, which plans to devolve power over more than £80bn of NHS funds to local doctors. FT Reports Boldness in Business Friday MARCH 18 Bank stress tests The European Banking Authority publishes details of its EU-wide stress tests designed to assess the banking sector’s ability to absorb future shocks. Lisbon treaty debated European leaders in Brussels discuss what improvements the Lisbon treaty has brought what and mistakes have been made more than a year after its introduction. ElBaradei and Palin talk Mohamed ElBaradei, Nobel Peace Prize winner and a leading voice for reform in Egypt, talks on “The New Middle East” at the India Today Conclave in New Delhi. Sarah Palin, the potential Republican 2012 US presidential candidate, will give a speech on Saturday. Saturday MARCH 19 Egypt referendum Egyptians vote on changes to the constitution, including new term limits for presidents and restrictions on government power to maintain emergency laws in the wake of the forced resignation of Hosni Mubarak on February 11. Obama in Latin America Barack Obama, the US president, embarks on a visit to Latin America, including trips to Brazil to meet Dilma Rousseff, the new president, Chile and El Salvador. Talks will cover job creation, trade partnerships, energy, and security co-operation. Sunday MARCH 20 Haiti election run-off The Caribbean nation begins its presidential election run-off, rescheduled from January, between Mirlande Manigat and musician Michel “Sweet Mickey” Martelly. Final results are due on April 16.
