Biographical Information Namık Tan has served as Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to the United States since February 2010. Prior to this appointment, Ambassador Tan was Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served as Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Israel from 2007 to 2009. Prior to his post in Israel, Ambassador Tan served in several positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ankara. He served as Spokesman from 2004 to 2007; Head of the Information Department from 2002 to 2004; and Head of the Department for the Americas from 2001 to 2002. Prior to these assignments, he served at the Turkish Embassy in Washington, D.C., as First Counselor from 1997 to 2001 and as Counselor from 1991 to 1995. Between these assignments, Ambassador Tan served as Chief of Cabinet to the Turkish Foreign Minister. He was Deputy Chief of Cabinet to the Turkish President from 1989 to 1991. He served as First Secretary at the Turkish Embassy in Abu Dhabi from 1987 to 1989. Prior to his post in the United Arab Emirates, he served as Second Secretary in Moscow from 1984 to 1987. Ambassador Tan joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982, and his first post was with the Department of Maritime Affairs. He holds a law degree from Ankara University.
