Dear Friends,

No doubt many of you are aware that on February 19 the U.S. House of Representatives
passed legislation that would shut down the Corporation for National and Community
Service and eliminate AmeriCorps, Learn & Serve, Foster Grandparents, Senior Companions
and the other service programs such as Public Broadcasting. Congress must now reach
a budget compromise by March 18th. If this legislation stands, JVC Northwest, as
an AmeriCorps National Direct Grantee, will be severely impacted since the majority
of our current JVs are AmeriCorps Members. As an AmeriCorps grantee, we have been
able to substantially reduce the placement costs to our partner agencies and ultimately
serve more people in need. There are 133 JVC Northwest AmeriCorps members. We have
been told that the situation is serious and funding is indeed in jeopardy.

We are sending this urgent request to please help our current and future JVs, their
agencies and the people they serve by making your voice heard. Tuesday, March 15,
is scheduled for Make the Call to Save Service in America! Pledge to call both of
your Senators on March 15th and encourage your friends and colleagues to do the

can!! We have been told that communicating with our representatives by phone or
fax is more effective than email, but PLEASEACT to support (even by email) not
only JVC Northwest, but many important service programs across the country.
