Dear parents, Please see the forwarded email from the US Community Service. In addition, the March Community Service Newsletter is now available online: www.sidwell.edu/upper-school/community-service/index.aspx<http://www.sidwell.edu/broadcast/action/clickthru.aspx?id=366.1302.739523.34591.5986> Donna, Karen, Tanya and Yingjie ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Dear Friends, Please mark your calendars for the following US Community Service projects coming up in April. We appreciate that everyone has a busy schedule and therefore we would like to give you as much notice as possible. We would encourage anyone interested in volunteering for these events to please contact either David Connell connelld@sidwell.edu<mailto:connelld@sidwell.edu> or June Das Gupta junedasgupta@msn.com<mailto:junedasgupta@msn.com> as soon as possible. I look forward to seeing some of you, if not all, at these events. On behalf of US Community Service, June Das Gupta SFS Family Community Service Project : April 3rd from 12:00 - 3:00pm, off-campus. US Community Service in partnership with Behrend's Builders will work on Seedling Projects' program, From Farm to Desk D.C. SFS students and their families are invited to build and fill raised beds for an Urban Garden at a charter school in NE, DC. Volunteers will be working on this project under the supervision of Behrend's Builders, who will also be providing the tools and materials. In order for Behrend's Builders to plan accordingly, they would like to know as soon as possible how many participants to expect for this service project. If you would like to participate in this project, please contact either David Connell, connelld@sidewell.edu<mailto:connelld@sidewell.edu> or June Das Gupta, junedasgupta@msn.com<mailto:junedasgupta@msn.com> as soon as possible. Modeled on Berkeley's Edible Schoolyard program, the Seedling Projects' From Farm to Desk D.C. is dedicated to empowering D.C. schoolchildren to make healthy and sustainable food choices. The program aims to bring the impact of Urban Farms, School Lunch Transformation and a rigorous Food and Ecology Curriculum to schools in D.C. For more information, please see http://seedlingprojects.org<http://seedlingprojects.org/> MedStar Health Blood Drive - Thursday, April 14th, from 2:00 - 5:00pm, Wannan Gym. If you would like to donate and give the gift of life, please contact David Connell connelld@sidwell.edu<mailto:connelld@sidwell.edu>, (202) 537-8182 for more information. Donors must be at least 17 years of age As most of our student community would not be eligible to take part in this community service, we are strongly encouraging participation from the parent and wider community. US Community Service Club and US Community Service are co-sponsoring a Bicycle Drive in partnership with Bikes for the World (BfW)- April 30, from 10 am - 1 pm, US bus parking lot and US Campus. Please save your gently used bicycles (children, youth and adult - no tricycles) and bike accessories, to donate to Bike for the World (BfW), a project sponsored by The Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA), a non-profit. A donation of $10 per donated bike is suggested by BfW to help defray the costs in getting the bikes to quality programs overseas. This event is advertised on the BfW website and we are expecting bike donations from the wider DC community as well. We will need many student and parent volunteers to work together with members of BfW to collect and prepare the donated bikes for shipping overseas where they will be distributed to those in need. If you would like to participate in this worthy cause, please contact David Connell connelld@sidwell.edu<mailto:connelld@sidwell.edu> or June Das Gupta junedasgupta@msn.com<mailto:junedasgupta@msn.com> If you would like more information on BfW, please see www.bikesfortheworld.org<http://www.bikesfortheworld.org/>
