Dear Members of the Sidwell Friends School Community: Upon my arrival here this year, I have leaned on so many to assist me in becoming reacquainted with Sidwell Friends. The members of the Administrative Council have been particularly generous in sharing their experience and guidance, but the one who has been constantly present to answer my questions and to carry forward a significant share of the administrative life of the School has been Lydia Adelfio in her role as Assistant Head for Administration. With mixed emotion, Lydia has informed me that on June 30 of this year, she will be leaving this position. Words cannot adequately convey the importance of Lydia’s contribution, efficiency, sensitivity, and commitment to Sidwell Friends School. She has served for more than a decade in the role of a senior administrator, but her history at the school goes back further; before arriving in her current post she had devoted her life to Sidwell Friends as a student, parent, alum and Parents’ Association President among other roles. We have begun a search for a person to serve as the senior executive assistant in the head’s office. Soon we will post this position on the employment section of www.Sidwell.edu, but if in the meantime you have ideas about who might be a strong candidate for the position, I hope you will feel free to share those with me. Alternatively, you might encourage qualified individuals to indicate their interest to me via email. I am quite sure that I am not alone in wondering how we will survive without the daily, even hourly availability of Lydia’s experience and wisdom. As she pursues new interests and possibilities, she assures us that she will remain, as always, a close friend to the School and an enthusiastic supporter of our ambitious hopes.
