Urgent Call For Your Signature Today to Save Beach Rights

Some very important legislative developments that would protect your beach rights permanently are under way but require your immediate support!
Senator Karen Tallian and State Representative Scott Pelath have sponsored legislation that preserves the use of property below the high water mark bordering Lake Michigan that is held and controlled by the state for the use of all citizens of Indiana for recreational purposes.
To date Senate Bill 539 has passed the Senate unanimously with 50 - 0 vote. It has moved on to the House of Representives and will follow their committee and voting process before becoming law. Recently individuals that have property on the lakefront that would like to prohibit this legislation have written and called government officials. They represent a minority in our community but legislators will not know that unless we are as vocal and visible. It is critical that our voices supporting the effort be heard over their effort to derail a bill that allows neighbors to enjoy the lakefront as we have for decades.
Please pause for a moment and imagine this issue resolved once and for all. The legislators need to hear your call to act on our behalf. We know everyone is very busy but this request is critical and has a sense of urgency that requires each of us to stop and raise our voices now. Please take a few minutes to take the following simple actions.

2. Send emails expressing your support of Bill 539 to the following individuals. The name of each committee person is linked to a preformatted email with the following text. "As a homeowner in Long Beach Indiana, I support Senate BIll 539 and respectfully ask for your support of this Bill and our rights to enjoy the beach as the community has for decades. " You will need to hit each name to communicate with all thirteen individuals!
You have the option to use the short and sweet version but we know this committee would enjoy hearing from you and your personal reasons for supporting this critical vote so tell them your story! Email addresses have been provided for your convenience.

This legislative activity is happening in parallel to the lawsuit some of our neighbors on the beach have filed. False Rumors
Please know that an erroneous communication has been circulated to howeowners along the beach suggesting that this bill will translate into a parking problem in Long Beach. This legislation does not add parking or encourage using our streets for public parking. Access points to beaches in Long Beach are owned by Long Beach and no change is planned there either. So therefore we anticipate that those currently using public beaches like Washington Park will continue to find that a more convenient option. This scare tactic is transparent!
