Dear USGLC Board of Directors, I just wanted to flag the dueling op-eds over the weekend by Texas Governor Rick Perry in The Washington Post<http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/rick-perry-isolationist-policies-make-the-threat-of-terrorism-even-greater/2014/07/11/6dbfba4a-06f0-11e4-bbf1-cc51275e7f8f_story.html> on Saturday and Rand Paul this morning in Politico<http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2014/07/rick-perry-is-dead-wrong-108860.html#.U8PlX_ldWCk>. Perry attacked Rand Paul for his isolationist policies, which is an interesting shift given Rick Perry was the one in the 2012 GOP primary calling for "zero - based budgeting" for foreign aid. Now that he is an internationalist, we just need to convince him that foreign assistance is an effective tool. Paul fired back in Politico that he was not an isolationist and Perry was "stuck in the past." As he has said many times, Paul stressed that he's a fan of President Reagan's "peace through strength" and his Cold War policy of "strong diplomacy and moral leadership." Of course, he continues to oppose our issue. All of this makes for an interesting debate in the Republican party and another sign that foreign policy is going to play an important role in the 2016 primary.
