Long Beach Country Club Membership Letter May-June 2014 To: The Members of Long Beach Country Club From: The Board of Directors The Board of Directors met in May and June. The highlights are below: Greens Report • Mr. Glidden reported on course conditions. The course sustained damage from the winter, especially on certain greens. The use of tarps, transplanting, and seeding has resulted in near-complete recovery. Thanks to Serviscape for their diligence in getting the course back to excellent condition. • Capital equipment has been purchased and is now in use. • Spraying for grubs and other insects has been completed. • The roof on the pump house will be replaced. Bids are currently being gathered. • The use of new signage and ropes for course protection during outings was discussed. • Please remember to replace divots or use the mixture bottles provided for divots. Pool/Patio Report • Mr. Gray provided the pool/patio report. Within the near future, the pool liners will need to be replaced. The committee is gathering bids as well as warranty information. • Efforts are underway to improve the overall pool/patio experience. Some of the new initiatives include: 1. “Raise Service” flags have been installed on the rear of most pool chairs. Simply raise the flag if you are in need of something, and one of our servers will be there to assist. 2. A new Island Oasis machine for blended drinks is now in use. 3. 20 new chaise lounges have been purchased and put in place. • The pool showers and changing rooms are being upgraded. New sinks and vanities have been installed. The pool house has been painted and new FRP panels have been installed in the showers. A few other new upgrades are being considered. Golf Report • Mr. McNellis gave the golf report. The number of golf rounds is up 14% year over year. The weather and (hopefully) the course improvements have lured more golfers. • Both the Member-Member and the Invitational enjoyed larger fields than last year. Great job by Brian, Justin and the staff with these events. • Our caddie program is growing! We have seven new caddies. Please consider taking a caddie either to carry your bag or to act as a runner/forecaddie. Most of our caddies need the experience and we will be faster and perhaps better players as a result. I have attached a caddy program update as a pdf file for more details regarding the caddy program. • We have had two “choose up” dates thus far and the second one attracted enough players for six groups. There are two more scheduled this summer. If you are looking for a game or are tired of the same old group (like me), please sign up for the next choose up. The next date for the choose-up is July 19. Treasurer’s Report • Mr. Dell provided the treasurer’s report. The club finished the fiscal year in the black. The primary reasons were a strong membership base, and increased usage by the club members. • The fiscal 2014 budget was discussed and approved. It includes continued improvements to facilities. Social Report • Mr. Crepeau reported that the member welcome party was a big success. Celebrating the club’s 90th anniversary with a 1920s theme party was a big hit. The costumes were fantastic. • More events centered around the pool and patio area are coming soon. House Report • Mr. Diemand gave the house committee report. The staining of the clubhouse has now been completed. The project was started later than anticipated due to poor weather. It also took a bit longer than usual, again due to weather interruptions. The good news is that the clubhouse will not need to be stained again until 2024. • Operations on the house side made budget last fiscal year, and are off to another good start this fiscal year. • Please remember that after you have reached your food and beverage minimum, the 10% discount program kicks in. Membership Report • Mr. Sammann gave the membership report. We have more total members now than we have had in the past 6 years. The board is grateful to all current members who have been involved in recruiting new members. • New member applications and status changes were discussed and approved. • Delinquencies were discussed; they are down substantially from previous months. Thanks again to everyone who continues to use and enjoy the club. Thanks to the staff who work very hard to make our experiences enjoyable. Enjoy the summer! Brian Shannon for the Board of Director
