Subject: ACTION REQUESTED: Bertini Fund Recommendations

Dear Members of the Executive Committee,

Catherine Bertini has offered her recommendations for the Spring 2013 funding cycle of the Catherine Bertini Trust Fund for Girls Education. Ms. Bertini suggests funding the following grantee proposals:

Girls Education Collaborative for $20,000

GEC requests fund to put towards the construction of a dormitory so girls can have a safe and appropriate place to live in Kitenga, Tanzania. The Kitenga School for Girls will immediately serve 120 students, which will one day expand to reach over 1,500 girls once the vision is fully realized.

Afghan Friends Network for $19,200

The Afghan Friends Network will use funds for three educational projects to reach 597 girls and women in Ghazni:
1. Khurasan Learning Centers to provide 4th through 12th grade education in math, science, and English to 500 girls annually
2. Women’s Literacy and Vocational Training Programs for 80 widows/adult women
3. University Scholarship Program to break down barriers for 17 exceptional graduates to attend college

The attached proposals offer greater detail if you wish to have more specific information on each program.
