Dear Catholic Charities President’s Council Members, I am very pleased to share that His Eminence, Cardinal Wuerl, has signed off on permitting the masses of the weekend of November 15 and 16 to be dedicated as Catholic Charities Day. What does this mean? We will have the opportunity to speak for just a few minutes at every single Mass at every parish in the Archdiocese of Washington! This is an opportunity I have been hoping for since I arrived almost three years ago. And with so many speaking slots to fill, obviously I am reaching out to you with the hope you'll volunteer a little bit of your time as a speaker at your parish or even a parish nearby. The goal of the weekend is to engage our most important group of support -- Catholics in the pews. You probably know as well as I do that while many people say they like Catholic Charities, very few understand just how critical our work is to the region. This is a weekend to try and fix that. We will be providing a draft speech, no more than 3-4 minutes, about Catholic Charities. There will be a place to add a paragraph about the parish’s service efforts or for the speaker to share their personal experience of helping others. We'll also be setting up both online and in-person speaker training sessions to help if you need it. And, at most of the masses, we'll be providing handouts to reinforce your message. I am thrilled with the Cardinal's choice of weekend -- it comes just before Thanksgiving and the holiday season truly starts, meaning hopefully we'll be able to engage hundreds of new people in our seasonal opportunities as a way to build momentum. Please consider being a speaker for as many masses as you can. And help us recruit even more speakers -- we have a lot of time slots to fill. We will be in touch with more details shortly, but I wanted to put this on your radar as a group of people I know I can count on. If you are willing to step in as a speaker at your parish, please contact Carol Shannon at carol.shannon@catholiccharitiesdc.org<mailto:carol.shannon@catholiccharitiesdc.org> or call her at (202) 772-4395. Thank you for your continued support. Sincerely, [fr-john-informal-signature] Rev. Msgr. John J.
