Dear Parents of 8th Graders, In case you have missed the revised calendar of upcoming 8th grade dates, here it is in another format. Please let us know if you have any questions. Gretchen, Meg, Emogene, Sandhya, and Hattie _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Dates to Remember - Parents of Eighth Graders (Continue to watch the Tuesday Letter for updates) MARCH Monday, March 11 Deadline for online Arts course sign up & language choice sheets; final placements in Language and Math will be on the third trimester reports in June; Tuesday, March 12 Information Session Regarding the Upper School Science Program, RLS Meeting Room, 7:00 p.m. Conversation with Tom Donley, US Science Dept Chair, Mamadou Gueye, US Academic Dean, and Eric Monheim, Director of College Counseling, about the change in the 9th grade science curriculum; Friday, March 15 Daytime meeting for 8th graders to hear about US curriculum from US Department Heads; APRIL Wednesday, April 3 Parent tours of Upper School - Meet Diana Lazarus, Current 9th Grade Dean, outside the US office (south end of US, nearest the Arts Center), 8:00 a.m.; Thursday, April 4 8th Grade Parent Social Gathering, Zartman Drawing Room, 6:30-8:00 p.m. (rescheduled from Feb. 21) Wednesday, April 10 Parent tours of Upper School - same time and location as April 3rd tour; MAY Thursday, May 16 Class of 2017 Upper School Welcome: RLS Meeting Room & Dining Room, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. The evening will be an exciting one in that it will include not only the parents and students of our current 8th grade, but also newly admitted families. S, and so it will be the first time that the entire class of 2017 and their parents will be together on campus; Early in May Students will sign up for next year's sports online. Watch the Tuesday Letter for more information; Friday, May 31 8th Grade Dinner - 6:30 p.m. in Dining Room followed by regular dance (ends at 10 p.m.); JUNE Thursday, June 6 Last Day of Middle School, dismissal at 3:30 p.m.; Middle School Closing Ceremony, Arts Center Theater, 7:00 - 8:15 p.m. Reception to follow in Dining Room for families and faculty 8th grade closing ceremony dress guidelines: (From the Parent/Student Handbook): "Eighth grade boys should wear dress shirts (any color) and ties, slacks (no jeans), street shoes (no sneakers) and no jackets. Eighth grade girls should wear simple dresses or dress slacks (any color). No strapless or halter tops are allowed. For this ceremony, all students are seated on the stage in front of the audience, so the choice of dress should be modest." 8th grade families will receive 4 tickets for the evening ceremony. A few additional tickets will be available, but the venue will not hold large parties of extended family for each student. More details will be coming in early May; Friday, June 7 Evening Class Party, details to follow from 8th grade reps SUMMER **Be on the lookout for summer communications from Upper School!** August 19 Pre-season for Athletics begins August 29-30 Upper School Orientation
