It was a classic underdog campaign victory. Facing a far-better funded opponent,
Michael Hancock won a surprising 58 to 42 upset victory last night over long-time
front-runner and former governor's son Chris Romer. The keys to the victory were
an outstanding candidate, an unmatched get-out-the vote effort, and a series of
ads widely recognized for helping Hancock tell his inspiring story and break out
of a large field of candidates.

"I had a very tough story to tell," Hancock had said during a recent televised debate,
"so I wanted the very best person to come and produce my commercials. I'm proud
of the fact that Mark [Putnam] did them," Hancock concluded in the unusual on-air
endorsement of a media consultant.

Putnam Partners shared in the victory with the rest of the Hancock team, including
campaign manager Evan Dreyer, general consultant Jon Hutchens, pollster Chris Keating,
new media consultant Kevin Herman, communications director Amber Miller, and field
director Beage Atwater.

that would cut through the clutter in a crowded field and show Michael's passion

The Denver Post wrote that "Michael Hancock's 18 Miles, which plays like a mini-movie
[is the] best advertisement of the campaign." The political blog Westword called
Hancock's bio commercial Never Gave Up "the ad to beat." And the political blog
Denver Pols wrote "When it comes to his TV presence, Hancock has blown the competition
out of the water."

After starting at nine percent in a crowded field of ten candidates in this year's
mayoral campaign, Hancock ended up coming from behind to place second in the May
3rd first round of voting and earned a spot in the June 7th run-off. Hancock
then faced former state senator Chris Romer, the acknowledged front-runner since
entering the campaign last year and the son of popular former governor Roy Romer.
Chris Romer ended up outspending Hancock $2.6 million to $1.4 million, including
nearly $700,000 in personal loans to his campaign.
