This is a long brainstorm – Don’t confuse this with a Neil rant. I haven’t talked to Josh or Tyler about this, but here are my thoughts: Josh’s/ONE’s problem: -They don’t get it. The organization doesn’t give away money, so the number one thing they do is advocate….advocate for more money for Africa programs – mainly to the US Congress/Exec Branch. Now that David is gone, they’re going to be led by a Communications expert, which is great at putting together a great message, but not so great when pulling the strings when it comes to funding (who on the hill wants to meet with him). Right now, ONE’s government affairs team is smart….super brains, but they aren’t good at personally delivering the message the right way. -other problem – One of the biggest, most effective tools they have are these Africa trips. Tyler has moved to Little Rock, but is still running the trips program for ONE. Josh and Tyler are friends, but I imagine it’s going to be tough to explain to the new CEO that the trips person is living in LR. Solution: -RSP could be under contract to advise the new CEO abt political bs. I would be clear that you aren’t going to work with the Govt affairs group. Trust me. And, I don’t know if this is possible, but could you actually target a few members here and there if you were on the board? Probably, right? If that’s the case, they’d be stupid not to have you. The only two people on the board that would maybe help them out on the hill are Bolton and Shriver, but honestly, Bolton isn’t doing anything and nobody wants to hear from Bobby. You, on the other hand, would be huge. You could tackle human security with these people. Similar to probably what Truman national security thing preaches I imagine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_security You delivering ONE’s message would change everything. -and, no, I haven’t talked to Tyler abt this, but why don’t we/you tell Josh that we’ll take over running the trips (we have the markham group too…he knows paul and greg – both have done things for ONE). ONE can still have a small internal trips org that we constantly meet with and coordinate with, but we contract Tyler out, have him work out of DC office at least 8-10 days a month. This gives Tyler the opportunity to do more things and grow, but keeps him employed, he helps with STC OR special Olympics too. This helps out Josh, because he can put TD on contract, which visually looks better, and he doesn’t have to fire him. He also gets better support for trips. How do we organize this? Debatable. If you’re on the board, RSP probably couldn’t contract with ONE, but not sure. *From:* Hunter Biden [mailto:hbiden@rosemontseneca.com] *Sent:* Tuesday, June 14, 2011 2:33 PM *To:* Rob Walker *Subject:* Re: Call me when you're on the train back to town Will do R.
