Dear Hunter, So good to see you and meet Rob and others Friday – it turns out the links between Rosemont Seneca and Truman are even deeper than we know… Rob mentioned that you basically house Markham Group there – and they are the ones we always hire to do our hardest field tasks! Thank you for offering to connect me with potential funders in Florida – and with some people in the development advocacy arena. To jog your post-weekend memory, you had offered: To connect me for potential meetings in Florida with: Michael Adler and his son Matt Pat Basket (? Basquet?) with Dewey Squared Stephen Bittel And if you feel close enough, Mark Gilbert (I may have forgotten to ask you about Mark). And for the development work we are doing, let’s start with introductions to Josh Lozman at One and Rick Leach at World Food Program USA – and then see where that goes before going any further. I've attached two introductory emails at the bottom of this email to make these introductions as easy as possible. With many, many thanks Rachel FLORIDA Dear , I wanted to introduce you to Rachel Kleinfeld, CEO of the Truman National Security Project, to see if you might be able to take a meeting with her when she is in Florida in two weeks. I just joined the board of the Truman Project, and they are doing phenomenal work recruiting, training, and positioning a new generation of progressive leaders to own national security so that we don’t keep losing on this issue – and have smart, strong policies to offer the American people. They work in three areas: leadership development, communications/messaging, and advocacy – and do everything from training 200 Congressional staff each year on foreign policy – to running an advocacy campaign across 37 battleground states on the need to break our oil addiction so we stop funding countries inimical to our interests. Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of Defense Bill Perry, and a host of great people serve on their Advisory Board. Rachel’s been invited to Florida to present to the local Democracy Alliance and see about impacting the state. She’ll be in touch – and if you have a moment to meet with her, that would be terrific. ONE/DEVELOPMENT AID Dear , I wanted to introduce you to Rachel Kleinfeld, CEO of the Truman National Security Project, to see if you might be able to talk with her about the development advocacy they are doing and whether there might be ways to work together. I just joined the board of the Truman Project, and they are doing phenomenal work recruiting, training, and positioning a new generation of progressive leaders to own national security so that we don’t keep losing on this issue – and have smart, strong policies to offer the American people. Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of Defense Bill Perry, and a host of great people serve on their Advisory Board. Seeing development as a crucial pillar of national security is part of the foundational values that animate Truman’s mission – and they have a few hundred veterans and flag officers who would like to make the case to Congress. They’ve been working some with MFAN and Oxfam, but would love to talk with you to see if there are useful ways to work together – and to learn more about how to best work with others in the field. Rachel will be in touch – it would be terrific if you could take a minute to talk. -- CEO and President Truman National Security Project and Truman Educational Institute Office: 202-216-9723 Cell: 202-320-2918 www.TrumanProject.or
