Vestex Researchers Recognized With Industry Accolades

Please join us in honoring the following Vestagen research partners, recently recognized for their accomplishments in infection prevention.

Infection Control Today awarded the 2011 Who’s Who in Infection Prevention to Vestex researcher Dr. Gonzalo M. L. Bearman. Over the last several years, the research of Gonzalo Bearman MD, MPH, has revealed new methods to combat infection-causing microbes like MRSA and C.diff. He is an associate professor of medicine, epidemiology and community medicine; an associate hospital epidemiologist; and the preventive medicine/public health residency program director at Virginia Commonwealth University.


A video, produced by Vestex researcher Kara Elam, M.P.H. has been accepted for consideration in the 2011 APIC film festival competition. Kara participated in a 16-week blind cross-over clinical trial involving Vestex products conducted at Virginia Commonwealth University. The study showed that Vestex-treated scrubs contained significantly fewer MRSA colonies than non-treated scrubs. This video describes the clinical trial as a part of a horizontal approach to infection control.


Assumption College presented an honorary doctorate of law degree to Vestex researcher Dr. Thomas Walsh for his ongoing commitment to service. Dr. Walsh is the director of the Transplantation-Oncology Infectious Diseases Program and professor of medicine of Weill Cornell Medical College at Cornell University.


APIC will present the 2011 Heroes of Infection Prevention award to Vestagen’s ICP consultant, Linda Spaulding. This award recognizes APIC members who work to reduce infection, raise awareness and improve the overall health care setting.


APIC presented the 2011 Elaine Larson Lectureship award to Vestex researcher Dr. Richard Wenzel as an expert who has made outstanding contributions toward the science of infection control and epidemiology research, education and administration. Dr. Wenzel is a professor emeritus and previous chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center.
