Prior to the merger, Cinergy Corporation was a holding company formed from the 1994 merger of *PSI Resources,* holding company for *PSI Energy*(formerly named *Public Service Company of Indiana*) and *Cincinnati Gas & Electric Co* (including its subsidiary, *Union Light, Heat & Power Company*, which served customers in Kentucky). *Energy Future Holdings Corp* (EFH) is the private company that acquired *TXU Corp* (formerly *Texas Utilities Co*) in 2007. EFH is owned by four partners: Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Texas Pacific Group, Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers. The company is divided into three operating units: *Oncor Electric Delivery* (previously called *TXU Electric Delivery*), the regulated electric distribution company; *Luminant Energy,* which owns generating capacity; and*TXU Energy*, the retail electric business. TXU Corp had split its business into regulated and unregulated subsidiaries in January 2002 to comply with the Texas restructuring law. Prior to the 2002 restructuring, regulated electric utility services were provided by *TXU SESCO* (formerly *Southwestern Electric Service Co*) and*TXU Electric & Gas* (formerly *Texas Utilities Electric Co*). *Pepco Holdings Inc* is a holding company formed from the 2002 merger of*Potomac Electric Power Company,* commonly known as PEPCO, and *Conectiv,* a registered holding company formed from the 1998 merger of *Atlantic City Electric*and *Delmarva Power & Light.* Conectiv’s two energy businesses are *Conectiv Power Delivery,* an electric and natural gas distributor, and *Conectiv Energy,*which owns power plants. In 2005 the company announced that it was returning to the use of the traditional utility names (instead of Conectiv Power Delivery) in the Atlantic City Electric and Delmarva P&L territories. *Southern Company* is a holding company that owns several utilities, including*Alabama Power,* Gulf *Power, Mississippi Power,* and *Georgia Power.* (Georgia Power merged with another subsidiary*, Savannah Electric & Power*, in 2006.)
