Montreal economic summit
The International Economic Forum of the Americas opens its Conference of Montreal (until June 9). Speakers include Jean-Claude Trichet, president of the European Central Bank, and Gérard Mestrallet, chairman and chief executive of GDF Suez.

Asia-Europe summit
The two-day Asia-Europe Meeting near Budapest brings together
foreign ministers from the two continents to discuss co-operation over issues such as natural disasters, terrorism, the spread of weapons of mass destruction, illegal arms trafficking and organised crime.

Corruption combated
The European Commission is to propose in Brussels measures designed to combat economic, social and political corruption in the European Union.

CBI installs new president
The CBI, the UK employers’ association, holds its annual meeting in London, at which Roger Carr is due to succeed Helen Alexander as president.

Fiscal policy discussed
Research
on fiscal policy and related issues are discussed at a two-day conference jointly staged by the International Monetary Fund in Florence, Italy.

Outlook for Africa
The African Economic Outlook 2011 is to be launched by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development during the annual meetings of the African Development Bank in Lisbon, Portugal.

International tax debated
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development stages its International Tax Conference in Washington (until June 7).

Ministers from the G8 and G20 leading industrial nations meet in Paris over two days to discuss the nuclear energy safety lessons to be learnt from Japan’s earthquake-damaged Fukushima Daiichi plant in March.

Merkel visits US
Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, makes a state visit to the US for talks at the White House with President Barack Obama. Topics will include Afghanistan, the Middle East, Iran and global economic stability and growth.
She will also be presented with the US Medal of Freedom.

Finance supply examined
Bankers and company executives gather in New York for the Innovations in Trade Finance Solutions Conference.

Electronic games on show
The latest in computer and video games and related products are on display at the E3 Expo trade show in Los Angeles (until June 9).
