We both have that in common. My dad was my role model. He was just a telephone company employee, struggling hard to make ends meet, but he raised four kids who all went to college, and when he lost my mom to cancer about 20 years ago, his inner strength and his faith kept him going, and as a family we grew even closer. Dad passed away a couple of years ago from a cerebral hemorrhage, simply sat down on the side of his bed one evening and left us; but he left us all richer for having someone to look up to and admire. It was the regard for life and the way he lived it that was his legacy and our inheritance. I see an awful lot of that in your father, and when I see him, he reminds me an awful lot of my own dad. I've admired him, voted for him, and count myself lucky to have met him. Thanks for the kind words. As I hope you can tell I am very proud to be his son. R. True to everything I'd ever heard about your dad, he stopped to speak with an elderly African American lady, waiting to catch her train. After he'd boarded and his train left, this lady came over to me and said, "This is the proudest moment of my life. I can tell my children and grand children their grandmother once met the Vice President of the United States". To that, I can only add, "Amen, and so can I". > > Doug Riddell > > > The message is ready to be sent with the following file or link attachments: > > SPEC Joe Says Hi DSC_0285 20101222-Riddell.jpg > > > Note: To protect against computer viruses, e-mail programs may prevent sending or receiving certain types of file attachments.
