Wimbledon fortnight
The Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships get under way over two weeks in London, with men’s champion Rafael Nadal and women’s champion Serena Williams defending their titles.

EU finance chiefs gather
Eurogroup finance ministers meet in Luxembourg on Sunday evening and Monday to discuss the escalating
eurozone debt crisis and a second Greek bail-out.

IAEA nuclear review
The International Atomic Energy Agency reviews international safety standards on nuclear energy in the wake of Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi crisis at the International Ministerial Conference in Vienna (until June 24).

Trans-Pacific trade talks
The Trans-Pacific Partnership resumes trade negotiations between member states Australia, Brunei, Chile, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the US and Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

UN debates Sudan
The UN Security Council meets in New York
to discuss Sudan as fighting escalates weeks before the country is divided. The council will also meet on Thursday to discuss peacekeeping forces in the Golan Heights after Israel allegedly killed pro-Palestinian protesters in June for breaching the ceasefire line with Syria.

Paris Air Show lifts off
The International Paris Air Show starts at Le Bourget airport, showcasing military and civilian aircraft. The event is open to trade visitors until June 23 and the public from June 24 to June 26.

Stradivarius auctioned
A Stradivarius violin, the 1721 Lady Blunt, which fetched
$10m in its last sale in 2008, is auctioned online by Tarisio for the Nippon Music Foundation to raise cash for Japanese earthquake victims.

American business awards
The American Business Awards, better known as the ‘Stevies’, are presented in New York to generate public recognition of the contributions of business people across the world.

Palestinian cabinet
Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, resumes talks aimed at finalising a unity cabinet with Khaled Mashaal, head of Hamas, in Cairo.

Modern Art auctioned
Bonhams in
London auctions impressionist and modernist works, including paintings by Boudin, Chagall, Picasso, Renoir and Joan Miró, with Portrait de Femme by Modigliani expected to sell at up to £2.5m ($4.02m).

The clean energy industry gathers in Beijing to discuss innovations amid the country’s rapid economic development (until June 24).

JUNE 23

Clinton updates on Afghanistan
Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, appears before the US Senate committee on foreign relations for an update on goals and progress in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

European leaders summit
Leaders from the 27 EU nations including David Cameron, Nicolas Sarkozy and Angela Merkel gather for a two-day European Council meeting in Brussels. The debt crisis and north Africa migration are on the agenda at the two-day summit, while Mario Draghi, Bank of Italy governor, is expected to be appointed president of the ECB.

Catholic public holiday
Many countries across the world including Brazil, Switzerland, and parts of Germany and Spain, take a public holiday on Corpus Christi day, celebrating the Eucharist or Holy Communion.

Energy strategy set out
The UK Energy Summit takes place in London with speakers including Sam Laidlaw, chief executive of Centrica, and aims to define a strategy for the UK sector focusing on secure, affordable and sustainable supplies.
