Coming from our work last week on the Namazi cases in Iran, we had great articles come out in the New York Times (http://perseus-strategies.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c39107cbeb21c5a0e6a367404&id=6d95716633&e=0afcca93e2) , Los Angeles Times (http://perseus-strategies.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c39107cbeb21c5a0e6a367404&id=d76bee6c38&e=0afcca93e2) , Daily Signal (http://perseus-strategies.us12.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=c39107cbeb21c5a0e6a367404&id=67e0306c85&e=0afcca93e2) , and Kayhan London (http://perseus-strategies.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c39107cbeb21c5a0e6a367404&id=e2a9a0c241&e=0afcca93e2) .

This week it was a whirlwind trip to Washington, New York, and Ann Arbor with former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed. We had a wide array of important meetings and gave talks together at the University of Michigan Law School, Donia Human Rights Center, Georgetown University Law School, and at a reception for Freedom Now. Below are a few pictures of some of our public-facing work.

Our visit to Michigan Law, my alma mater, was particularly nostalgic for me as it brought me back full circle to when I was a law student representing my imprisoned client James Mawdsley, who had a 17-year sentence in solitary confinement in Burma for handing out pro-democracy leaflets. While working for a semester at a human rights NGO in London, I had taken up his case and submitted it to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and that summer I secured a letter from five Senators and 18 Members of Congress to the Burmese junta urging his release. I received the call from the UN that we won his case in my law school dorm room and a few days later the call from his mother saying he was about to be released. I then caught a plane to the UK where I met James with his family at London Heathrow and had my first airport reunion, which inspired the creation of Freedom Now. To return to Michigan Law with President Nasheed some 40 cases later for me personally was really
wonderful.
