This is a threat, however, that must be fought in partnership with our allies, and in the Muslim world, particularly the Middle East. We cannot win it at our borders, or by needlessly alienating most of the world's Muslims." ------------------------------------------------------------ –CSIS’s Anthony H. Cordesman authored a new commentary today, “Reinforcing Failure: The Revised Executive Order Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States (https://www.csis.org/analysis/reinforcing-failure-revised-executive-order-protecting-nation-foreign-terrorist-entry?utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=9650baebc5-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_03_07&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-9650baebc5-145367789) .” ** iDeas Lab ------------------------------------------------------------ Satellite imagery from CSIS’s Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative appears to confirm a February 21 Reuters report (http://www.reuters.com/article/us-china-usa-southchinasea-exclusive-idUSKBN161029?utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=9650baebc5-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_03_07&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-9650baebc5-145367789) that China has nearly completed structures intended to house surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems on its three largest outposts in the Spratly Islands. The Brits actually give Americans credit for a few things that are mutually meaningful: rock, jazz, and western movies—that’s about it. But those are three totally cool things. British rockers don’t question the undeniable originality of Chuck Berry, Little Richard, or Elvis. They worship Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash. They marvel at Sam Cooke, Solomon Burke, The Temptations, Marvin, Fats, and Professor Longhair. And let’s not even get started with the deification of Bob Dylan… I received notes yesterday talking about how the Faces can’t hold a candle to the Tempts’ version of “I’m Losing You.” Of course they can’t. There’s only one David Ruffin. But my point is that imitation is the greatest form of flattery and when you can sing, rock and swagger like Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood in homage to Motown’s greatest that is a damn good thing! It sure sounds good to me and makes me smile. If the Brits hadn’t imitated influences from across the pond there would be no Faces. And for that matter no Beatles, Stones, Who, Clapton, or anything that has followed them. I can’t imagine life without the amazing rock and roll that has come from England. I’m thankful that, of course, I don’t have to. Paul Weller is one of those ultra-stylish British rockers who has been heavily influenced by American rock and his elders in England like Rod Stewart. You’ve probably seen Weller slouching in those cool John Varvatos magazine ads designed to invoke the spirit of rock and roll. He’s even cooler when he’s singing and playing guitar (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9Bpqq9gKVA&utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=9650baebc5-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_03_07&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-9650baebc5-145367789) . ** Feedback ------------------------------------------------------------ I always welcome and benefit from your feedback.
