Good morning, John. I recently returned from my Middle East trip and
wanted to pass along some info.
I basically stayed in Kuwait the entire time and focused on the
different Ministries w/in the gov't (Defense,Water and Electricity,
Health). As you know, they rely, almost solely, on desalination
plants in the region. Initially the questions that were raised
focused on whether or not Aqua Sciences' technology could be a
legitimate replacement for desal. The short answer is "no" - we
cannnot compete with desal's output, so servicing large populations
all at once is not in our wheelhouse yet. We quickly focused the
discussions on implementing an "emergency water network" - basically
stating that our machines should be viewed as a "backup water
generator" for critical facilities ie. hospitals, royal palaces,
schools, shelters, gov't buildings, even small, hard to reach
communities. All of these critical facilities have backup
generators, so why not have a backup emergency water source? This
triggered much interest as there are major concerns with the desal
plants going down or becoming contaminated due to terrorism. In this
part of the world, our price point of $750K per forty-foot machine was
not an issue as the gov't has a lot of money on hand. Similarly, the
Ministry of Defense was looking to Aqua to replace their existing
systems - on bases and forward operating bases imbedded w/ troops.
Solar was brought up as a potential power source but not a ton of
interest as diesel/power is not a big problem in the region. The key
is to hammer home that these machines and this technology can be built
to customer spec. It is not a cookie cutter approach; we can custom
design each unit.
