Dear IHI Friends, From C. diff to MRSA to KPC, resistant infectious organisms were in the headlines in 2010. Vestagen is proud to congratulate two of our key researchers who are making strides in the fight against infectious diseases. Dr. Richard Wenzel and Dr. Thomas Walsh were recognized by their peers this year for their outstanding contributions to teaching, patient care and research at IDSA, ICAAC, APIC and SHEA. Dr. Richard Wenzel Professor emeritus and chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at the VCU Medical Center Recipient of the Edward Kass Award and Lectureship for clinical excellence from IDSA. Recipient of the Elaine Larson Lectureship Award from APIC Recipient of The Maxwell Finland Award for Scientific Achievement at SHEA Dr. Thomas Walsh Director of the Transplantation-Oncology Infectious Diseases Program of Weill Cornell Medical College at Cornell University Recipient of the 2010 Sanofi-Aventis ICAAC Award from ASM. Vestagen applauds their leadership and research excellence. Dr. Walsh and the MedStar Research team at Washington Hospital Center presented the effects of Vestex-treated uniforms in their emergency department and ICUs at ICAAC. Dr. Wenzel along with Dr. Gonzalo Bearman completed a 16-week blind cross-over clinical trial of Vestex in the ICU at Virginia Commonwealth University as further evidence for the effectiveness of Vestex. Their Research hasnt gone without notice from those outside the medical profession. Vestex has received critical acclaim from the industry and media as well. Environmental Health Technologies, LLC awarded Vestex with the EHT360 Best Practice Certification for garments working environments in health care and related industries. The certification required Vestex products to demonstrate effectiveness, safety and quality control. Noting the Washington Hospital and VCU research, Health Leaders magazine featured Vestex as a medical breakthrough in health care worker uniforms.
