Dear Members of the Board. WFP will be featured on 60 Minutes this Sunday, March 19th at 7:00 p.m ET in a piece about the famine in South Sudan. WFP USA’s Communications Team has been in lockstep with WFP about this episode, and all teams at WFP USA are prepared to manage the influx of donations, media follow-up, Hill conversations and other opportunities we expect the airing will yield. Highlights of the segment will include: 1. An introduction framing proposed USG budget cuts and the famine crisis in four countries (including South Sudan) 2. Scott Pelley’s interview with WFP’s Shaun Hughes, stating WFP is reaching half of those in country who are in need of food 3. Warehouse shots to reference last year’s looting of WFP warehouses 4. WFP’s Hughes explains dire security risks, and talks about colleagues who have died because of these difficulties 5. Hughes makes very strong statement that WFP is “committed to the people of South Sudan” Here is a brief clip: http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/impact-of-foreign-aid-cuts-on-countries-suffering-of-starvation/ We commit to follow-up to provide reports on the impact of all activities surrounding this airing. Please let us know if you have any questions in the meantime. Thank you.
