Biographical Information Laird Treiber currently serves as the Economic Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Ankara. Before assuming this post, he was Economic Minister Counselor at the U.S. Embassy is Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He previously served as Director of the Office of Iraqi Assistance and Economic Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, in which capacity he was responsible for coordinating programs in support of Iraq's economic development. Mr. Treiber joined the Foreign Service in 1989. His earlier posts include additional tours in Saudi Arabia and Turkey, as well as positions in Poland and Mexico. He has also served in the Bureaus of Economic, Energy, and Business Affairs and European and Eurasian Affairs. Mr. Treiber received an undergraduate degree from Georgetown University. He also holds masters degrees from Columbia University and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (ICAF). His languages include Turkish, Polish and Spanish.
