Notes from the call below. For me, biggest takeaway is that Chris confirmed what we surmised: that FB recognizes they have to make an offensive move here (with Beau or without), and they see Beau as a great potential leader for their new message/education. Now we just need to get in a room and see what they have in mind. Next steps: I'll pull together a memo for us before the FB meeting, so we have some firm ideas if we want to express them at the meeting Chris said he would send us some stuff he's working on Meeting with FB reps [Hunter/Eric -- do you want to be at the mtg? They have offered to come to DE, but we can go to DC if that's better for you] Notes: Chris Kelly call: Deep interest in figuring out how to do this in the most effective way How do we get the most bang for the buck? Not just headlines, but doing stuff that actually works. Will send us Cuomo stuff on updated sex offender registry. Joe Sullivan, Chief Security Officer at Facebook BB: The biggest and most basic ICAC issue is that it’s a resource problem. CK: Helping at the margins (not going to be able to help except in ways Facebook is directed). Think there are structural things that make it easier to catch predators. I’d be surprised if the company was going to fund these units on their own. (BB: you can’t even accept funding from private entities many times) BB: Cyber-bullying. Just the pure education piece – don’t talk to strangers. Letting kids know who a friend is, what a friend is. Is it taboo to talk about with FB? CK: No. For all of mainstream press (everyone is friending everyone) FB has always said not to friend those you don’t know. Constantly improving education around that is something the company would be very interested in engaging in. I know in CA there were online safety education bills that the company did formally back. BB: It hasn’t entered our collective consciousness. I’m more worried about the parents than the kids, to be honest. CK: We have to educate and engage adults to step in in these situations. -- On Feb 24, 2011, at 1:59 PM, Alexander Snyder-Mackler wrote: > Camille's team sent a few more this am. > > Recommendations for Facebook: > > > > Child Exploitation Investigations: > > 1. A new feature that Facebook has added is using the IP address to identify where the user logs onto their account profile from. It then posts the status on the wall of the user's profile. The user can disable this feature, but we are not sure if Facebook keeps this information, if so, it would be very helpful to LE. > > 7. When we do have a legal return, they send data non related to suspect or victim due to the "friends" associated. This may provide good information down the road, but when trying to react to a case quickly, it would be better if the suspect and/or victim information is put in the report first. > > 8. Facebook should create a default setting for minor's pages that allow the user to "allow/accept" comments posted to their wall. This would prevent bullies from posting comments on someone's wall. Can a similar feature be created for status comments that go out about other's. For example: If someone posts a threat or a rumor to their status about someone else, the subject of the rumor would have to option to delete it. > > > > > > <Facebook recs.docx> > > > -- > Alexander Snyder-Mackler > Biden for Attorney General > (302) 295-8340 > alexander@beaubiden.com > beaubiden.com > @beaubiden > facebook.com/beaubiden >
