Happy March to one and all. I wanted to call your attention to our monthly eNews which goes out to our school leaders and other close constituents. It lays out the upcoming Network events, programs and services, and more importantly, this month includes a link to our Executive Summary holding our most current data. By any comparative measure we are doing great work. I look forward to using this data to support the continuation and improvement of Network programs moving forward. Of course, this will be integral to our board discussions at the end of the month in CA. As always, please be in touch with any questions, comments or concerns. Warm regards, Mary Claire Having trouble viewing this email? March 31st at 2pm EST: Webinar "Our Students' Journeys: Inner City Experiences at Independent High Schools" In this Webinar, James Fiore, Graduate Support Director at Saint Ignatius Loyola Academy in Baltimore, and Christopher Wilson, Principal at Saint Ignatius Loyola Academy, will be sharing the results of research conducted on cultural, social, and academic challenges facing graduates who attend elite private and boarding schools in the region. They will share common issues faced by graduates, as well as helpful strategies for Network schools in both preparing students for the high school transition, and promoting successful completion of their subsequent high school program. Additional information regarding registration for this event will be sent out towards the end of the month. Saturday, April 30th: New England Graduate Support Summit Sunday, May 1st: Northeast Regional Celebratory Mass / Brunch The Network is pleased to announce the New England Graduate Support Summit on Saturday, April 30th. This summit gathers National Graduate Support Council, the National Alumni Network Steering Committee, as well as graduates, alumni, and Graduate Support Directors from our New England middle schools. The working summit will provide an exciting venue for our staff and graduates to be vertically integrated to collectively discern the important role of our Graduate Support Programs locally, regionally, and nationally. The Network's first year of our Regional Collegial Visit cycle will wrap up this spring in Boston. To celebrate the work of the New England schools and build upon their collaborative efforts, the Network will host a celebratory Mass, brunch, and gathering on May 1st. Both events will be held at Nativity Preparatory School of Boston. New England Graduate Support Directors and alumni will receive additional information about Saturday's event from David Kubacki, Graduate Support Director. New England school leaders will receive further details about Sunday's event from Melodie Hessling, Director of Mission Effectiveness. June 21st-23rd: Leadership Academy - Kellogg School of Non-Profit Management We are excited to announce the dates of our Leadership Academy, a program ideal for Presidents and Principals in our Network of schools. The Academy will be held from June 21st-23rd in Chicago, IL, at the Kellogg School of Non-Profit Management. With input from the Network team and a focus group of school leaders, a team of exemplary professors is crafting a top-notch leadership program. For further information on this Academy and to register, please click on this link<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?llr=e7a7pccab&et=1104274673507&s=5749&e=0014rUMOPEscZxzvuKzwEC985RgsbMU1YtHOL7nOZZYFr3MlGcyGeba46lbigoA1Vd8_HcOmnlPZDRjDZaxeFKO7xGKYn7PrrkV1_iLNoCmUFiUyphrPx-SbqUHauJ9cm3RBHIZevGPDafA7_YrkLF5ggit7Cy1WVY1sIl7kwcV6ltKUzgMtQEPIBDMwj-VHRIxEdzi_FmSqi4=>. Network Stars James Scott: Mother Seton Academy, Baltimore, MD [http://ih.constantcontact.com/fs034/1101742867332/img/112.jpg] Mr. Scott is pictured with his daughter, Malinda, currently in 7th grade at MSA. James Scott first arrived at Mother Seton Academy in 2003 as the proud father of James Andrew Scott, a newly admitted 6th grade student. Mr. Scott, as he is always called, was working in home improvement and found lots to improve on MSA's campus. He would linger after dropping off his son and volunteer to change light bulbs, do gardening, and shovel snow. In 2009, when MSA decided to move to a new and much larger school building, he was asked to become a permanent fixture on MSA's campus as the Plant Manager. Mr. Scott arrives each day - rain, sleet, snow, or ice - by 5 am and stays until 6 pm. Mr. Scott never wanted to work in a business atmosphere and, as he says, feels honored to work in "the spiritual atmosphere at MSA. I have been blessed by all that MSA has given my family, I just want to give something back in return." Delfina Centanni: Nativity San Diego, CA [http://ih.constantcontact.com/fs034/1101742867332/img/113.jpg]Mrs. Delfina Centanni has been the Director of Fundraising for Nativity San Diego since 2008 after serving as the assistant director for the previous two years. "Fundraising is probably the hardest job at any NativityMiguel School, and Del has done a remarkable job at a difficult time to assure our mission thrives," says Principal Brendan Sullivan. In addition to coordinating efforts to secure $1M in funding each year, Del has initiated a variety of programs to ensure Nativity's future funding, namely through legacy and estate planning. "We're in a great place financially, and all thanks to the passion, experience, and commitment Del has brought to that position." - Brendan Sullivan. Thank you Mr. Scott, Del, and all those who make a difference throughout our Network community. The NativityMiguel Network is grateful for your sincere commitment and dedication to our schools and students! If you would like to nominate a Network Star, please email Maureen Costello at mcostello@nativitymiguel.org<mailto:mcostello@nativitymiguel.org>. Staff Updates The Network staff is immensely thankful for the work and dedication of our Associate Administrator, Kathleen Richmond. Since the start of the Network, Kathleen has played an instrumental role in coordinating our Annual Conference and assisting with a number of administrative tasks at our national office in Washington, D.C. We wish Kathleen the best as she moves on to new endeavors. [http://ih.constantcontact.com/fs034/1101742867332/img/117.jpg] As we say good-bye to old colleagues, we welcome new ones. Maureen Costello joined the Network's team in January as our new Program Associate. Maureen recently graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a Masters in Educational Policy. With her background and interest in policy studies, we are looking forward to using her expertise in advancing our work with Cornerstone and engaging the Network's board to advance the mission of our schools. Welcome, Maureen! Marshall Memo Summary The Marshall Memo is a weekly round up of important articles and research in K-12 education. The Network subscribes to this informative memo and has been given permission by author Kim Marshall to share a monthly summary of this memo.
