Tuesday - March 8, 2011 From the School This Week's Query What impact do I have on the world today?Notes from Sally No assembly this week; instead, Meeting for Worship will be held on Friday. Seventh and Eighth Grade Latin students will participate in the National Latin Exam on Wednesday morning. Minimester begins next Monday. Each student should have brought home an information sheet about the week. If you have not received that information, please contact the trip chaperones or the Middle School office. This week marks the close of our Winter Food Drive. So many in our city are needy; please give generously this week to support this critical effort. We were glad to see many of you at the program given by Deborah Roffman last Thursday evening. If you missed her or would like to hear more of what she has to say, she is doing other local presentations this Spring. Feel free to contact me for more information. Second trimester reports will be posted early next week. Look for an email alerting you that they are ready to be viewed on Educator Online. CTP scores will be back and be ready to be mailed by mid-April. The final Inter-School Middle School Math Meet for the year will be held on Monday, April 11th, which is a Professional Day for Sidwell Friends. Andrew Callard is willing to take students who would like to participate even though there is no school that day. Please contact him if you are interested in having your child participate. Our 8th Grade Vertical Voices Playback Theater Troupe has had a busy couple of weeks. They performed as a part of INTERSECTIONS at The Atlas Performing Arts Center and then last week, they performed and led workshops on inclusion and exclusion in the community at a regional middle school diversity conference. Great job! We were pleased to have a large group of students who also attended the diversity conference, and we look forward to the contributions that they will make to our community. Congratulations to these Sixth Graders who have advanced to the state round of the Letters about Literature competition: Haroni Amare, Sophie Bass, A.J. Dwoskin, Ellen Flax, Andy Harris, Sophia Houdaigui, Jason Mazique, Clara Molot, Jolisa Osborn-Polakoff, Maya Robnett, Grace Shulman, and Henry Wessel. Good job, Sixth Graders! I hope that many of you will take the opportunity to see the Upper School presentation of “Oliver” this weekend. We say “break a leg” to our 5th and 6th Grade cast members: Sebastian Amoruso, Harrison Blain, Anders Brodnax, Abass Sallah, Liam Susswein, and Joey Dunn who plays Oliver!Instrumental Music Notes Aladdin Pit Band: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 3:45-5:30; Tuesday 2:30-5:00 Rm 101 5/6 Full Orchestra and 5th-Grade Handchime Choir: Wednesday Rehearsal Period Rm 101 7/8 Full Orchestra: Wednesday Rehearsal Period Rm 101Choral Music Notes 7/8 Chorus Rehearsals This Week Wednesday, March 9th Boys Ensemble: 7:25 am Girls Ensemble: During Rehearsal PeriodMiddle Years - March 2011 March Middle Years.pdfPlease read the latest issue of Middle Years, a newsletter for parents of Middle Schoolers.
