The Embassy has reached out to DNA to request the meeting. The first question we got back from DNA (within minutes) was whether this was about the Popoviciu case.

We should conference today on ideas for a delegation and how to put the presentation together.

Agreed Michael. Is now the time to begin to assemble a more high profile team that can speak to the injustice here. Who do we have at the firm that can speak with authority about anti-corruption. Mike I was going to reach out to Judge Freeh and if you can think of others of that stature I think now is the time to read them into the situation and see if they are willing to help. Ambassador Gittenstein mentioned names like former US Atty Patrick Fitzgerald.

And just to update you and where we stand, I have reached out to Klemm and asked him to help us broker the meeting. Rob is reaching out to Andrea to ask whether she can figure out the procedures used to request a meeting with DNA. If we are going to do this we should do it right – we should put together a persuasive deck with all the procedural and substantive defects in the indictment / case against Gabs, and we should also probably put together the start of what would be a press strategy. And we’ll want to line up the big names to bring over. I’d expect we only get one shot to do this.

You’re missing my point – I’m not saying that we can’t or shouldn’t do anything – I’m just saying that given that this is the perception, it would explain why we have had difficulty getting traction at the USEMB. It’s probably worth explaining this to the client, who in my opinion has unrealistic expectations regarding what the USEMB can / will do. I have tried to be VERY clear from the start that I did not think that the USEMB would play an active role in his case, and that the most that they might do is ask questions or broker a meeting for us. I am fearful that he has a different impression.

All the more reason not to have their credibility damaged by exposing the
Cases where extortion by senior political
Officials is carried out by the persons charged with protecting / changing the legal system ?.

It's pretty clear cut, let's reach out for the meeting or go media in US

This kind of article is likely to make our efforts with the USEMB an uphill battle, and why I expect HK has had little interest in taking any kind of public position.
