Evan, Just wanted to share some info on DC Volunteer Lawyers Project. -DCVLP currently handles more cases on behalf of domestic violence victims than any other legal services organization (including WEAVE) in Washington, DC. In 2011, DCVLP took 158 Civil Protection Order Cases and 26 Custody/Divorce cases on behalf of domestic violence victims. DCVLP also represented domestic violence victims in 17 immigration matters. -DCVLP lawyers have a 96 % success rate. -DCVLP has an innovative model that uses paid supervisors to closely supervise volunteers attorneys. DCVLP currently has 525 registered attorneys. Buy using volunteer attorneys, DCVLP is able to provide more representation for every dollar. In 2011, DCVLP was able to take 355 cases on a total budget of $265,000. -DCVLP attorneys have already stepped in to take WEAVE's open cases. DCVLP found out about WEAVE's closing on Thursday 1/26, and a DCVLP lawyer is representing one of WEAVE's former clients in a Civil Protection Order case today. -DCVLP applied for the LAV grant for 2012-13. Although DCVLP was not awarded the grant, a representative from OVW told DCVLP that they had a very strong application and souls apply again next year. I'm looking forward to talking. Best, Kathleen Sent from my iPhon
