As we enter the heated period of the upcoming Presidential election year, one of
the questions put forward by us techie types is: Are electronic health records
(EHR) really a bipartisan priority when the politics seem to be so contentious?

The looming tsunami of a growing elder population will challenge China....

One of the issues we discuss continuously in the United States is the impact of
the looming demographic shift as our population ages. While the issue is not inconsequential,
it is even more of a problem in other places around for world. For example, China
is facing an even more severe impact on their society because of the aging population.
The latest Chinese government census reveals that 178 million Chinese are over
age 60 as of 2009 or, about 8% of the total population. The figure is projected
to reach 437 million, or, one third of the population, by 2050. The demographic
shift represents a huge change which will have implications not only on healthcare
but the economy as a whole and many other sectors in China.

Nestled on the outskirts of Boston in the small burb of Newton is a delightful little
place that is worthwhile if you're in the area. Lumiere Restaurant [***] is a cozy
little French bistro type of place that oozes with flavor under the direction of

The ongoing saga...

The Good - At least Tom Daschle (D-SD) and Bill Frist (R-TN) are collaborating and
trying to solve problems. It would be really, really nice if their former colleagues
in the US Senate would follow suit and start to solve some problems as well. We
might actually move the ball forward on a topic that will come about regardless
of what happens in Washington, DC and, that's called "healthcare reform"...

The Bad - The Greeks are rioting after the Greek Parliament approved a new package
of spending and job cuts demanded by international lenders, bringing Greece closer
to a new badly needed bailout. The time of reckoning has arrived.

The Ugly - The Catholic Bishops - Planned Parenthood standoff does not seem to be
in anybody's interest. While the Sisters are being silent (for the moment), I anticipate
that their more neutral position would be a more welcome perspective on all fronts.
