With the Democratic legislative takeover in Maine and Montana likely going Republican, the net gain for DAGA this election cycle is +1. The national landscape is now evenly split: 25 Democratic AGs and 25 Republican AGs.

Indiana: 100% reporting - Kay Flemming (D) 42% v. Greg Zoeller (R) 58%

Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller has won re-election as the state government's top lawyer. The Republican defeated Democratic nominee Kay Fleming to win a second four-year term. Zoeller has overseen distribution of millions of dollars from the state to victims of last year's deadly Indiana State Fair stage rigging collapse.

Maine: Democrats take control of the state legislature.

The election year mantra was "take back the House." Maine Democrats appear to have done that, and one better. After being swept from power amid the Republican wave election of 2010, unofficial election results show that Democrats will control the State House once again. Democrats claimed to have picked up 19 seats in the 35-member Senate with two races still too close to call. They appear to have 87 seats in the 151-member House, with the results in one race still unsettled. In Maine, the legislature selects the Attorney General.

Missouri: 100% reporting - Chris Koster (D) 56% v. Ed Martin (R) 40%

Despite the aid of a couple big name Republicans, Republican Ed Martin has been defeated by Democrat Chris Koster in the race for Missouri’s attorney general. Florida U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio and Texas Gov. Rick Perry both attended rallies for Martin who served as chief of staff to Republican Gov. Matt Blunt. Democratic Attorney General Chris Koster was seeking a second term.

Montana: The results are coming in slow in Montana, the race remains uncalled.

Republican Tim Fox and Pam Bucy, running in a tight race for attorney general, topped a list of statewide races that remained uncalled Wednesday as results continued to be reported across the state. Results slowed by long lines and counting problems caused by large voter turnout showed Fox with the slimmest of leads, 53-46 percent, at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, 223,571 votes to 194,296.

North Carolina: 100% reporting - Roy Cooper (D) 100%
Attorney General Roy Cooper ran uncontested.

Oregon: Ellen Rosenblum (D) ~60% v. James Buchal (R) ~40%

Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum, who was appointed to her position in June, on Tuesday won a four-year term in the office after easily defeating Republican James Buchal. Rosenblum, who served as a trial and appellate judge for 22 years, won a hard-fought Democratic primary race in May against former U.S. Attorney Dwight Holton.

Pennsylvania: 90% reporting - Kathleen Kane (D) 57% v. David Freed (R) 41%

Vowing to lead her office as a prosecutor and not a politician, Democrat Kathleen Kane sailed to victory Tuesday in her historic bid to become the first woman and first member of her party elected as Pennsylvania's attorney general. The former Lackawanna County prosecutor outpaced Cumberland County District Attorney David Freed, her GOP rival, with a commanding lead that put her on track to win with a margin wider than that of any other Democrat on the statewide ballot.

Utah: 100% Reporting - Dee Smith (D) 30% v. John Swallow (R) 65%

Republican John Swallow defeated Democrat Dee Smith in the race to replace outgoing Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff, according to unofficial results Tuesday. With 100 percent of precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Swallow with 64.54 percent of the vote compared to Smith’s 30.18 percent.

Vermont: 75% reporting - Bill Sorrell (D) 57% v. Jack McMullen (R) 35%

For incumbent Attorney General Bill Sorrell, Tuesday’s election looked easy compared to the August primary he survived by the skin of his political teeth.
Sorrell won his eighth term as attorney general against Republican Jack McMullen, Progressive Ed Stanak and Liberty Union Party candidate Rosemarie Jackowski.

Washington: Bob Ferguson (D) 53% v. Reagan Dunn (R) 47%

In the state's most expensive and perhaps ugliest attorney general's race, Democrat Bob Ferguson held a commanding lead over Republican Reagan Dunn in Tuesday's incomplete vote count. Ferguson was ahead by 6 percentage points, but Dunn trailed significantly in two of the counties — King and Snohomish — with the most votes left to count.

West Virgnia: 100% reporting - Darrell McGraw (D) 49% v. Patrick Morissey (R) 51%

Longtime Democratic Attorney General Darrell McGraw lost Tuesday, a major scalp for Republicans and industry. Republican challenger Patrick Morrisey, who was not licensed to practice law in West Virginia until shortly before he filed to run in January, will be the state's next chief legal officer. Morrisey and his allies -- mostly out-of-state conservative and anti-regulation political action committees with secret sources of money -- outspent McGraw and McGraw's allies by more than three to one.
