Sep 28, 9:24 AM TEAM HUNTER PLAYER NEWS SINCE SUN, SEP 30 Cam Newton - (Thu, Sep 27, 2012) Cam Newton Cartoon Fair Or Foul? Stephen A. Smith isn't comfortable with the editorial cartoon of Cam Newton in the Charlotte Observer. /media/motion/2012/0927/dm_120927_nfl_debate_cam_newton_cartoon_fair/dm_120927_nfl_debate_cam_newton_cartoon_fair.jpg Cam Newton - (Sun, Sep 30, 2012) Newton completed 15-of-24 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns, and added nine carries for 86 yards and another score Sunday against the Falcons. The fantasy stats were nice, although Panthers fans couldn't have been happy after Newton wasn't able to deliver a win Sunday. The Panthers needed a single yard for a first down that would have ended the game but head coach Ron Rivera decided to punt instead of letting Newton try to get the yard. He led the Panthers in rushing yards while connecting with eight different receivers, throwing touchdowns to Greg Olsen and Kealoha Pilares. Larry Fitzgerald - (Wed, Oct 3, 2012) Countdown Daily AccuScore: ARI-STL Prim Siripipat goes inside the numbers for the Cardinals-Rams /media/motion/2012/1003/com_121003_nfl_CDDAccu_ARISTL/com_121003_nfl_CDDAccu_ARISTL.jpg Larry Fitzgerald - (Sun, Sep 30, 2012) Fitzgerald had eight catches for 64 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Dolphins. The receiving yards weren't as high as many had hoped but fantasy owners have to be happy with Fitzgerald's touchdown, his second in as many games. He was targeted a team-high 15 times and remains an elite wideout talent. Trent Richardson - (Wed, Oct 3, 2012) Countdown Daily AccuScore: CLE-NYG Prim Siripipat goes inside the numbers for the Browns-Giants /media/motion/2012/1003/com_121003_nfl_CDDAccu_CLENYG/com_121003_nfl_CDDAccu_CLENYG.jpg Trent Richardson - (Mon, Oct 1, 2012) Mint Condition: Diamond Studs Michele Steele is joined by Panini hobby marketing manager Tracy Hackler to discuss diamond-embedded cards and other highlights of 2012 Panini Momentum Football. /media/motion/2012/1001/dm_121001_mintcondition_panini_momentum/dm_121001_mintcondition_panini_momentum.jpg Frank Gore - (Wed, Oct 3, 2012) Gore is averaging 81.5 rushing yards per game and is ranked 14th in the NFL with an average of 4.94 yards per carry. While Gore remains the primary back and received 21 carries against the Jets in Week 4, his workload could diminish with the return of Brandon Jacobs, particularly at the goal line. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman used nine different players to amass 245 against the Jets and will likely continue to mix things up and show the opposition a number of different looks. For now, consider Gore a solid running back option, but continue to monitor how much work gets doled out to Jacobs and Kendall Hunter. Frank Gore - (Sun, Sep 30, 2012) Gore rushed 21 times for 62 yards and a touchdown while also catching two passes for 13 yards against the Jets on Sunday. The 49ers dominated the game with a strong rushing attack led by Gore. While his 2.95 yards per carry was a little less than desirable, he managed to find the endzone for the third time in four games this season. He could have had so much more, but back-up quarterback Colin Kaepernick vultured and early touchdown while Kendall Hunter stole one from him late in the game as well. Gore will have another decent match-up next week when he faces the Bills who, coming into Sunday, allowed an average of 100.3 rushing yards per game and coughed up 247 yards on the ground with four touchdowns to the Patriots on Sunday. Jeremy Maclin - (Wed, Oct 3, 2012) Maclin (hip) is not on Philadelphia's injury report Wednesday. This is great news for fantasy owners and fans alike, but Maclin had just one reception for seven yards in his return in Week 4 from his hip injury. He appears set to suit up Sunday at Pittsburgh, but it remains to be seen if he'll be hampered at all by the ailment. Jeremy Maclin - (Mon, Oct 1, 2012) Maclin (hip) was held to just one catch for seven yards against the Giants on Sunday. It's a disastrous outing for Maclin's owners, but he didn't lack playing time against the Giants -- he just didn't capitalize. His hip issue may have been a factor. Jeremy Maclin - (Sun, Sep 30, 2012) Maclin (hip) is active for Sunday's game against the Giants. Maclin is coming of a hip injury, but he's in line for his share of targets in his return to action Sunday, assuming no setbacks. Vernon Davis - (Sun, Sep 30, 2012) Davis (back) had two catches for 28 yards Sunday against the Jets. Against a weak opponent, the 49ers decided to focus on the running game, which left Davis to be more of a blocker than a receiver Sunday. Things are looking up for Davis, however, as the 49ers host the Bills next week, a team that just gave up over 100 yards and a touchdown to Rob Gronkowski. Vernon Davis - (Sun, Sep 30, 2012) Davis (back) is active for Sunday's game against the Jets. Davis was listed as probable and the injury appears to be very minor. He's been Alex Smith's favorite target so far this season and he could put up big numbers against a Jets' defense that will need to adjust to the loss of Darrelle Revis. Tony Gonzalez - (Sun, Sep 30, 2012) Gonzalez caught five balls for 51 yards Sunday against the Panthers. Gonzalez continues to catch everything thrown his way, as he hauled in all five of his targets. He'll continue to get plenty of targets in the high-powered Falcons offense. Tony Romo - (Wed, Oct 3, 2012) Theismann Thinks Romo Is Average Joe Theismann talks to Cary Chow about Tony Romo's poor play at quarterback this season. /media/motion/2012/1003/dm_121003_nfl_joe_theismann_phoner/dm_121003_nfl_joe_theismann_phoner.jpg Tony Romo - (Wed, Oct 3, 2012) NFL32OT: Jets Season In Jeopardy Episode 199: Suzy Kolber and Chris Mortensen discuss the injuries plaguing the Jets. Smith discuss Joe Theismann's comments about Tony Romo. /media/motion/2012/1003/dm_121003_nfl_debate_theismann_on_romo/dm_121003_nfl_debate_theismann_on_romo.jpg Tony Romo - (Tue, Oct 2, 2012) Sticking With Cowboys For Super Bowl Prediction? Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless want to know if Eric Mangini still thinks the Cowboys are going to the Super Bowl this season. /media/motion/2012/1002/dm_121002_nfl_debate_cowboys_super_bowl/dm_121002_nfl_debate_cowboys_super_bowl.jpg Tony Romo - (Tue, Oct 2, 2012) NFL Live OT: Cowboys Offense Struggling Damien Woody, Tedy Bruschi and Eric Mangini talk about communication issues between Tony Romo and Dez Bryant in loss to Chicago. /media/motion/2012/1002/dm_121002_nfl_live_ot_cowboys_offense/dm_121002_nfl_live_ot_cowboys_offense.jpg Tony Romo - (Tue, Oct 2, 2012) Buy Low on Romo ESPN Fantasy Expert, Eric Karabell, thinks you should buy low on Tony Romo despite his 5 INT performance on Monday. /media/motion/2012/1002/dm_121002_fantasy_ia_karabell_romo/dm_121002_fantasy_ia_karabell_romo.jpg Tony Romo - (Mon, Oct 1, 2012) Tony Romo Talks After Cowboys' Loss Tony Romo throws five interceptions in Cowboys' loss. /media/motion/2012/1002/dm_121002_nfl_romo_post/dm_121002_nfl_romo_post.jpg Tony Romo - (Mon, Oct 1, 2012) Highlight Of The Night Bears Blowout Cowboys 34-18. /media/motion/2012/1002/dm_121002_nfl_hotn_bears/dm_121002_nfl_hotn_bears.jpg Tony Romo - (Mon, Oct 1, 2012) Romo completed 31-of-43 passes for 307 yards with one touchdown and five interceptions Monday against the Bears. This performance certainly won't help contract negotiations. Romo had two interceptions taken back to the house, and through another three up for grabs for the Chicago secondary. Kyle Orton came on in relief of Romo late in the fourth with the game out of hand, and did an admirable job on a late touchdown drive. Though its doubtful Romo will lose playing time any time soon, he'll definitely need to sharpen things up in time for their matchup with the Ravens following the team's bye week. Tony Romo - (Sun, Sep 30, 2012) The Cowboys have had initial discussions with Romo about a contract extension, but the quarterback has postponed talks until after the season so the process won't become a distraction, the Dallas Morning News reports. While it might be smarter for Romo to take the cash, given the shaky nature of his offensive line, we can't fault Romo too much for the decision. Contract talks should be pretty smooth once they begin and barring a career-threatening injury, it looks like the signal-caller will remain in Dallas for a number of years. Michael Bush - (Mon, Oct 1, 2012) Bush had 10 carries for 29 yards and caught one pass for eight yards Monday against the Cowboys. Bush, who was used to kill the clock in the fourth quarter, saw 11 touches to Matt Forte's 14. Bush again was used as the primary red-zone back, and figures to be a shaky option unless he hits pay dirt with Forte (ankle) returning to the starting lineup. Michael Bush - (Mon, Oct 1, 2012) Bush (shoulder) is active for Monday's game against the Cowboys. There's been talk that Bush's shoulder may be an issue, but in terms of his immediate fantasy value, the return of Matt Forte limits Bush's fantasy reliability/upside Monday, assuming that Forte's ankle holds up in his return to action. Michael Bush - (Mon, Oct 1, 2012) Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune indicated that he has heard that Bush is dealing with a shoulder issue that might be significant. Interestingly, Bush does not appear on the Bears' injury report, but the implication here is that he is dealing with some sort of nagging issue. Meanwhile, teammate Matt Forte is believed to be on track to play Monday night, barring a setback, which probably limits Bush' Week 4 upside anyway. Ben Tate - (Mon, Oct 1, 2012) Tate has an X-ray on his sore toe on tap, John McCLain of the Houston Chronicle reports. More on Tate's status as the week rolls along, but we do know that he missed Monday's walk-through, so this is a situation to track. Ben Tate - (Sun, Sep 30, 2012) Tate had five carries for 11 yards and two catches for three yards Sunday against the Titans. Another disappointing performance for Tate, who has gained fewer than 30 yards on the ground in three of the team's four games this season. Arian Foster is running the ball well now and Tate is taking a full backseat. David Akers - (Mon, Oct 1, 2012) Akers was 2-for-4 on field goal attempts and made all four of his extra points during Sunday's 34-0 win over the Jets. Akers made field goals from 36 and 40 yards out, but failed in another attempt at a 40-yarder as well as one from 55 yards out. He pulled both attempts wide right, something he had been doing during warm-ups as well. He should bounce back next week. Brent Celek - (Mon, Oct 1, 2012) Celek caught four passes for 57 yards against the Giants on Sunday. Celek has a very respectable total of 18 catches for 315 yards through four weeks, but he has failed to score a touchdown and remains ideally no more than a TE2. His average of 17.5 yards per catch probably isn't sustainable, either, so he'll need to either catch more passes or prepare to see his yardage numbers slow down. Alex Smith - (Sun, Sep 30, 2012) Smith completed 12-of-21 passes for 143 yards and rushed twice for 12 yards during the 49ers' 34-0 win over the Jets on Sunday. This was more of Smith being used as a game manager than anything else. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman threw some different looks for the Jets to have to counter and while that wasn't conducive to Smith's statistics, it obviously proved positive with the win. But Smith could have had more as his accuracy seemed to be a bit of an issue on the day as well. He overthrew a number of passes and never really found a rhythm during the game. Fortunately the ground game and the defense were there to pick him up. The 49ers take on the Bills next, a team that was allowing an average of 248 passing yards and two touchdowns per game until Tom Brady shredded them for 340 yards and three touchdowns during Week 4. Denarius Moore - (Mon, Oct 1, 2012) Moore had four catches for 71 yards in Sunday's loss to the Broncos. Raiders receivers caught only eight total passes on the day, so though Moore was not overly active, he was at least able to make a few plays on what was a rough passing day overall. The Raiders don't have much for receiving options around Moore, so both he and the team will be hoping a Week 5 bye gives fellow receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey sufficient time to recover from his concussion.
