Rice carried the ball nine times for 42 yards and caught five passes for 12 yards in Sunday's 43-13 loss to the Texans. Rice is sometimes able to put up a nice fantasy game even when the rest of the Baltimore offense struggles, but that wasn't the case Sunday as Houston jumped out to a big first half lead and neutralized the Ravens' star running back. Fantasy owners will have to hope that he can bounce back with a big day in Cleveland, after the Ravens' bye week.

Newton completed 21-of-37 passes for 233 yards and a touchdown, but also threw an interception against the Cowboys on Sunday. Newton added 64 rushing yards on six carries as well. His performance Sunday was fairly average, but he was throwing against a talented Dallas secondary. The Panthers face a tough Bears defense next week, so they will need Newton to play his best in order to win.

Fitzgerald made four catches for just 29 receiving yards Sunday against the Vikings. Fitzgerald's performance Sunday is not one he will be too fond of. He saw seven targets from quarterback John Skelton, but it was fellow receiver Andre Roberts who led the Cardinals in targets, receptions, and yards. Every player is prone to an off game, but Fitzgerald will surely have to improve next week if Arizona is to have any chance against the 49ers.

Coach Pat Shurmur said that he's going to watch Richardson (ribs) at practice in the coming days to see where he's at physically, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. Richardson tried to play through his rib issue Sunday against the Colts, but was hampered to the point that he finished with just eight carries for eight yards. Shurmur also noted that the team could sit Richardson this coming Sunday against the Chargers if his rib injury is hurting him to point that he can't play, which is a possibility, given Richardson's post-game comments. "I'm not myself out there right now, said Richardson. "You look at me, I guess I'm not running hard like I'm used to, so I'm not out there right now. So it is worse than what people think it is." If Richardson is limited at all, or sits this week, then Montario Hardesty and Chris Ogbonnaya would be in line for added carries Sunday.

Browns coach Pat Shurmur said after Sunday's game against Indianapolis that Richardson (ribs) did not suffer a new injury during the game, but he just wasn't as effective while playing hurt, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. Richardson amassed just 19 yards on eight carries and two receptions against the Colts, but his fantasy owners have to be relieved to hear he didn't suffer any new injury. He didn't play in the second half Sunday, but Shurmur's comments seem to indicate Richardson should be able to play in Week 8 against a banged-up Ravens team.

Richardson (ribs) remained on the sidelines to begin the second half of Sunday's game against the Colts, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. Richardson totaled just eight yards on eight carries in the first half. The game has now progressed into the fourth quarter, with Richardson still not in the game. He came into Sunday's contest with a rib cartilage injury.

Coach Pat Shurmur expects that Richardson (ribs) will play Sunday against the Colts, the Akron Beacon Journal reports. "He practiced throughout today," Shurmur said Friday. "He practiced all the way through practice. Yeah, I think he'll be there." This will probably end up being a simple matter of pain tolerance for Richardson, but Shurmur noted Friday, "I think when he gets in there and gets rolling, a lot of things that tend to hurt until the adrenaline flows kind of go away. He's cleared to play and my assumption is that he'll be there Sunday." Montario Hardesty waits in the wings in the event that Richardson is slowed at all by his rib issue, or suffers any in-game setbacks.

Richardson practiced again Friday in a limited fashion, sporting a flak jacket to protect the damaged cartilage in his ribs, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. The Browns officially list Richardson as questionable, but the expectation is that he will tough it against the Colts in Sunday's 1:00 ET contest. If he is limited at all, or suffers any in-game setbacks, Montario Hardesty would be in line to spell him.

Gore (ribs) was a full participant in practice Monday, the Sacramento Bee reports. Furthermore, Gore believes he'll be ready for next Monday's showdown at Arizona after enduring some of the worst pain in his career during Thursday's win over Seattle. Luckily for him, the rest afforded him from 11 days off should allow him to take the field. However, make sure you watch his status as the week carries on.

Gore insisted Friday that his bruised ribs will be "all right" after playing Thursday night through the most pain of his 109-game career, the Sacramento Bee reports. "The X-ray was looking good, and I'll take it one day at a time," Gore said. In his favor, extra rest will be afforded to him as the 49ers don't play again until Monday night, when they take on Arizona. Gore rushed for a season-high 131 yards on 16 carries in Thursday's 13-6 win over Seattle. However, his left ribs took a hard hit from cornerback Brandon Browner on one of his five receptions with six minutes left before halftime. Gore then carried the ball 10 times for 92 yards in the second half, adding two receptions to finish with a season-high 51 receiving yards. He said that he struggled to catch his breath after long runs, at which point he was relieved late by Kendall Hunter. Gore's 601 rushing yards rank him fifth in the NFL, while his 5.8 yards per carry ranks him second in the league among running backs just behind Buffalo's C.J. Spiller. Obviously, check on his status throughout the week, but if healthy, Gore is a must-start against a Cardinals defense that allows an average of 120.9 rushing yards per game.

Gore suffered bruised ribs during Thursday night's game against the Seahawks, Matt Maiocco of csnbayarea.com reports. X-rays taken after the game came back negative, so the injury does not appear to be serious. Gore suffered the injury after getting hit in the back on a short catch in the second quarter. The soreness in his ribs eventually forced him out of the final eight minutes of the game. "I'll be all right," Gore said. "Coach just wanted to be smart. We've got a long season and a tough road down the stretch." The Niners have 10 full days off until their next game, so Gore will have plenty of time to rest up before taking on the Cardinals in Week 8.


Vernon Davis - (Fri, Oct 19, 2012)
Not only was Davis held without a catch Thursday against Seattle, but the 49ers' top tight end wasn't even targeted during the game. Davis expressed frustration after the game saying that defenses are cutting off his usual routes and necessary adjustments aren't being made. He told Kevin Lynch of the San Francisco Chronicle, "Nothing's there. When I run my corner routes the cornerback is dropping to the corner. They are just taken stuff away, some of my explosive routes and stuff." When asked about how to change that, Davis replied, "That's up to the offensive coordinator. I don't know what to do. I run my routes hard to get open but there's nothing there. We'll see, we'll see." Davis backtracked slightly and reiterated that the team win was the most important thing, but clearly he is frustrated.

Romo was quietly effective in Sunday's 19-14 win over the Panthers, completing 24-of-34 passes for 227 yards and a touchdown without an interception. It's the first game this season in which he hasn't thrown an interception. Romo has yet to really show his 2011 form, and with starting center Phil Costa (ankle) getting hurt again Sunday, he could be in for some more rough times ahead given how his offensive line performed through the first few weeks of the season without Costa.

Bush had six carries for 36 yards and one catch for negative three yards Monday against the Lions. Bush has not hit pay dirt since Week 3, but will have an excellent chance to break that streak against the Panthers leaky run defense in Week 8.

Tate has a hamstring issue according to Texans head coach Gary Kubiak, the Houston Chronicle reports. Tate still managed to rush for 47 yards on 10 carries in Sunday's lopsided win over the Ravens. With a bye week looming, Tate should have ample time to heal any discomfort he is feeling.

Tate (toe) had 10 carries for 47 yards Sunday against the Ravens. Arian Foster had 98 rushing yards and two touchdowns, which limited Tate's upside to produce more. While Tate has succeeded in the past when Foster does too, it doesn't seem to be happening much this season.

Akers was 2-for-2 on field goal attempts and was successful with his one PAT during Thursday's win over the Seahawks. Akers, who was battling a stomach virus during the week, made kicks from 38 and 28 yards out. Though his load has been light the last couple of weeks, he remains a top-rated kicker for fantasy purposes.

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh hinted that Smith's recent struggles could be related to the sprained finger he suffered two weeks ago, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. "I can't say for sure," Harbaugh said. "He's not the kind of guy that would ever say it and none of us are, that would publicly make any excuse or rationalization. I know him. And I wouldn't disgrace him by saying it was (a factor), publicly. I know the kind of guy he is and the kind of competitor he is ... It's good. It's getting better." Since suffering a sprained middle finger on his throwing hand on October 7 against the Bills, Smith has thrown four interceptions in two games and posted passer ratings of 43.1 and 74.5, respectively. Prior to that, he had thrown just four interceptions over his previous 15 games, so the likelihood of it affecting him is strong. He'll have another tough test Monday night when the 49ers take on the Cardinals, who rank fourth in the league in passing defense with an average of just 191.3 passing yards per game and have held opposing quarterbacks to a 67.4 passer rating.

Offensive coordinator Greg Roman said that Smith (finger) is "still working his way back into form", the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Even if the finger injury is still bothering Smith, it doesn't excuse the poor decisions he's made over the past two games. Things don't figure to get any easier from here on out, as the 49ers' schedule looks to be among the hardest in the league from a quarterback's perspective. After a Week 8 Monday night matchup in Arizona, the 49ers have a bye week, followed by home games against St. Louis and Chicago.

Smith completed 14-of-23 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown with one interception during the 49ers' 13-6 win over the Seahawks on Thursday. Smith also rushed five times for 11 yards. With the running game so effective against the vaunted Seattle defense, it was another day of simple game management for Smith. He spread the ball around to six different receivers and never needed to take any big risks with his longest completeion of the day going for just 18 yards. He'll have a nice long layover now as the 49ers don't play again until Monday night of Week 8 where it could be more of the same for him as they head to Arizona, a team whose defense has been more susceptible to the run in weeks past.

Moore (shoulder) caught four passes for 36 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Jaguars. Moore was targeted eight times and has now scored a touchdown in back-to-back contests. With Darrius Heyward-Bey presumably back to full health, Moore could find some more openings moving forward.

Moore (shoulder) will play Sunday versus Jacksonville. Moore's injury is of little concern to his owners. He's a great fantasy bet this week against the Jaguars' 23rd ranked pass defense (261 yards allowed through five games).
